Never planned on hunting with it but sure do love my Rossi Model 92!

In .357 Mag/.38 Special, looks like the choices are Rossi R92, Marlin 1894 or Henry Big Boy. Any thoughts or caveats of one vs the other? Looking for a plinker and fun gun, mostly. I know Rossi's are hit-n-miss, QC wise. Worth the risk? Also, why are these three so hard to find?

I picked up my Rossi at a gun show a few years back. It was LNIB and had a decent asking price. It was also in .45 Colt (which was especially nice as I have three single action revolvers all in .45 Colt), and I loved the way it handled with that short 16" barrel. Prior to that I can't remember seeing very many Rossi or Marlin lever action rifles at any of the local gun shops or gun shows. The Henry Big Boy at 7 pounds and with a retail price of $850 is too heavy and too expensive for what I'm looking for in a lever action rifle.

I'm 76 years old. I hunted deer for the first 40 or so of those years. Every deer I ever killed was with a 336 Marlin. Most of my hunting companions from those days have passed. Most used 336 Marlins with a 94 Winchester showing up occasionally and some old surplus military stuff. I've owned a few 336s in my life. Recently, for nostalgia sake I went shopping for another 336. My requirements were JM stamped and condition, condition, condition. The best I could find was a "W" with birch stock and of course the JM stamp.
Now-a-days I would not gut a deer for it. Where I live deer are plentiful, sometimes showing up in my yard. I enjoy watching them. In spring the fawns, seeing them grow up. In fall the bucks rutting, chasing does up and down the 1 lane road in front of my house. Not a day goes by that I don't see deer.
During deer season I load the 336, lean it there against the front porch railing and pretend I'm a deer hunter. Sometimes I reflect on deer hunts past, the camaraderie, the deer camps/cabins and those that have moved on. I look at the rifle and sometimes tear up.
