That's a beautiful rifle dark knight. Thanks for the instructions too. It makes me almost want to convert one myself.

How exactly do you file down the interdiction tab? If the rifle is held horizontally, do you file up (so that the gap between the release lever and receiver is wider) or back so that the mag well is longer, or both? Thanks

FWIW You can pick up a blast cabinet and some aluminum oxide for under 200$ if you check around. I had the same trouble as you locating someone to blast my gun for me and stumbled upon a nice setup to do it myself with that i have used over and over. It will pay for itself in no time if you intend on ever doing a similar project again and the adhesion of a quality coating to an aluminum oxide blasted part is second to none. I use duracoat sl and it has held up wonderfully.

PS. Great looking gun. I am in the middle of a similar project myself and hope it turns out as well as yours. I third the high price on the dinzag bolt on retainter but that S&D for you.

Wow, very nice work! It looks great, can't wait to hear how it runs.

Rather than start a whole new thread I'll just ask here. What's the cheapest place to get an unconverted Saiga in x39? Assuming I want to just make it legal to use foreign mags and have a normal position pistol grip wouLd it be cheaper to convert myself or just get a K-Var converted one?

Oh yea, definitely cheaper to do it yourself, but you need the skills. It's not rocket science, but you could screw up a perfectly good rifle if you aren't mechanically inclined.
