I was recently gifted a Custom Arisaka 30-06 that was built by my brother’s father-in-law. He was a diamond setter, jeweler, engraver and held patents on hydraulic fishing reels. Pretty sure this gun was done right. It has a Redfield 3-9 scope.

If anyone else has custom Arisaka they want to show off please post pictures to this thread.

Very interesting rifle!
Im curious what bottom metal was used, thats not standard T-99 fare.
Also does it run cartridges from the magazine, and is that the original 7.7 barrel or a replacement made to the same contour?

Ive had 3 sporterized Arisakas, and ive found i rather like them. If you plan on shooting it much, id suggest getting a timney trigger for it.

Ill find a post pictures of my Aris when i sit at the computer next.

Don't know about the floor plate. That's the way it was.

I assume you load, perhaps with a stripper-clip, from the top.

This is my only 30-06 and don't have any cartridges to try it out. At the current price and availability of ammo, I'll wait for a good deal because I am into .22lr and have no big game hunts on the immediate horizon.

The 06 is long for the Aris mag box and action, not much but a little bit. The 06 Ari I had I never fired, but it's mag box was cut in half shimmed and brazed. The new bottom metal might have been installed to allow a longer cartridge to fit.

Japanese rifle building is unique, and they are well made from the start. By the end of the war they made functional rifles, but the finish wasnt what anyone would pay good money for.

I have 0 series Nagoya built T-99 with original sling, but no monopod, nor dust cover. Got the Mum, leading arms and original stock finish, too.

I had a " US 30-06 " swacked T-99 that was done for the Korean military, and was issued as the US M-99 I belive. These conversions were done overseas with left over T99's for the Korean War. The one I had was also an early war 2nd series Nagoya. It was part of my US rifle collection.
The conversion was to push the magazine wall out a bit, put a notch in the receiver, so the longer 7.62X63mm (metric 30-06) could be easily loaded into the magazine.
Thats all I know......well, a Type 38 Carbine would be a handy thing to own......

Many trophys were converted here in the states by gunsmiths.
The one inthe OP is sweet and a work of art in my eyes, Id never take it along, just too beautiful;!

My Dad has a nice scoped .30-06 Type 99 in a Fajen stock. I remember the notch cut in the upper receiver for the longer bullets, but I dont recall what they did to the magazine- it did feed ok in any event.
I haven't actually seen it in over 20 years, but I know its still leaning in the corner by his bed, right next to his custom 6" Ballester Molina. :)

He also has one of the Chinese 7.62X39 Arisaka carbine conversions, but its a little shady and I dont think hes ever shot it, lol.

The 06 is a bit smaller in dis at the base than the 7.7. The type 99 is freaky strong.

.472" for the 7.7, .470 for the 06. These are base diameters, according to "Cartridges of the world." So the difference isn't enough to worry about. I have made countless Arisaka rounds out of 30-06 brass. The problem lies in the sloppy chambers that some of the later type 99s have. Some are so loose that an 06 case reformed won't work. At least, not past one firing.

I inherited Dad’s rifle. He had it sporterized and made a stock from a kit, and converted to 30-06. It has a Weaver 2.5 power scope on a side mount. Whomever ground off the mum made it look almost like it was never there. I don’t know what he did to the trigger but it’s light. I found some Winchester ammo that fits the magazine but I lost the box they came in. 95639ED6-4537-4A8E-BA67-E3FB4625B2B7.png 9A4C3E2E-E560-4E7B-9BF1-7ED9E9DAB1C4.png 9A9BD353-F091-4E54-AC73-70772F7038B6.png A710BA21-8D24-4197-B55E-E19BC3BF8F1F.png A6758426-EF94-4118-A470-6E0C7158E06D.png 2A734652-B5C1-4FA3-A98B-CEE0C3A6EB6E.png

Those are the old Winchester silvertips.....

I still have one our preacher gave me in 1955 that he picked up in the far east when he was a chaplain in wwII. He said it was safe because he'd taken out the firing pin spring. Yup, fifteen minutes at the auto supply store and I had it working. I was 11. First loads all keyholed. .308 bullets. I bought some .312s and it became a three-four moa shooter. Chrome bore was pristine. Too bad the chrysanthemum had been ground.

Nice-looking rifle. Is that a 3/4" scope?

I haven’t ever measured it, but probably 3/4 or so, yes. It has a post & horizontal crosshair reticle. Knowing Dad, it was probably one of the cheapest ones on the market in the early 1950’s.
