Custom high end wood furniture for your rifles/shotguns

The only nice piece of wood I own is on the very first rifle I built when in high school. I was fortunate to have a gunsmith friend/mentor who took me under his wing who insisted that I "buy" this 98 Mauser action, which he had screwed a Browning water cooled MG barrel into and chambered it in what was to become the 7.62 Nato, while it was still known as the T65. There wasn't any brass available, we formed it from 30-06 and there was very little loading data to be found.

He had inletted it into a Bishop stock blank, that was yet to be shaped. The price was exactly what he had in it, $65.00 to be paid "as you are able, but you keep the books!"

I was still in high school, working two part time jobs at the time (One paid $.45/hr and the other a whopping $.75/hr). I really couldn't afford it but he insisted and guided me through finishing the rifle under his watchful eye. As parts, such as Timney trigger and Weaver K6 scope were added, they were faithfully added to the tab and paid off in due time. The debt for patience, a lifetime friendship and services rendered will never be paid! RIP, Werth!

The MG barrel turned out not to be a tack driver and after a year or so was replaced with a Shillen 6mm Rem. barrel, which is.

Have to admit, the 6mm is as close to a safe queen as anything I own. My working rifles wear plastic and generate memories of another type!
