Custom made Ear Protection

I have used a pair of custom earplugs for probably 8 years now. My pair seems to be an older version of the plugs you are looking at.

They work great, after you figure out how to put them in easily (just twist), and they don't seem to ever wear out.

Performance wise, I would guestimate that they gave me the same relative protection as a cheap pair of foam earplugs worn under ear-muff type protection.

Mine were a different color for each ear (red for right), for convenience, and I had a neck-cord so I wouldn't lose them. I am getting ready to buy a new pair since I can't find mine anymore, but I am waiting for the next big gun show that I have a chance to go to. That's where I got my first pair...they had a booth set up and they made them for me on the spot.

Interesting - if rather costly.

A thought tho ...... if these are custom made .. does that preclude an on line order? Can't see how they'd get your ear ''profile'' unless you went to them direct..... unless there is some way of casting a mould to send.

They usually have set up a booth at shows and the next show they will attend will be on Dec. 12 - 14.

In order to get the custom made ones they make a mould right on site and then make the finished product later. Can't order them online.

Interesting, but difficult to understand. They use the terms "ATC potentiometers or integrated telecoil" and don't explain them. There are several companies that do some version of this, including Walker GameEar.

There was a similar thread a couple of weeks ago discussing what we'd wear while hunting. As a result, I wore my ProEars, which isn't an ideal solution while hunting.

I had a set made at the Supershoot a few years back... Essentially, the nice person (not with that company, by the way...) squirted the stuff in my ears, then I shot a match while it hardened. Then they were removed.

Only problem is that I lost around 85 pounds, and they no longer fit... I think I paid around $50.

They worked VERY well.

Some folks have had bad results, and some have had excellent results. Everyone posting here seems to like them, and you can add me to the list. However, you should know that some folks hate them and wish they'd not spent the money. I had mine made by Celeste of Ce-Ca at Camp Perry and they are EXCELLENT. She's been doing them forever, apparently. I think that the MAIN thing is finding someone who has been doing it for years and who listens to his/her customers. I had had a set made by an audiologist about 8 months ago and they are very unfomfortable and don't deaden the noise like the ones I got at Perry. The ones from Perry were also about a third of the cost.

If you get someone who knows what they're doing, they will work VERY WELL and they've be VERY COMFORTABLE.

Yesterday I went to a motorcycle expo and AZEarprotection had a booth there. Had my custom made ear plugs made. Took about 20 minutes sitting there with the goo in the ears, but not uncomfortable at all. About an hour later I picked the plugs up. Now they have to sit for 24 hours to completely cure. Cost was 50 bucks. Can't wait to take them to the range this coming week!

Update!

I went shooting today with my new ear plugs and must say, they are great. Had them in my ears for the whole time I was at the range which was about 3 1/2 hours. I was shooting 45 Auto and 9mm and had an AK and a 44 Magnum in the lanes besides me ( outdoor range). I took my regular ear muffs with me, but didn't really need them. I might use them for super hot 44 Mags or stuff like that. Those custom made plug bring the noise level down to where I had to use plugs an muffs combined before.

I am not used to putting them in or taking them out yet - I guess I'll need more practice. Other than that --> great buy, highly recommended! :)
