Hi guys,

I have a 704 style rifle, it has a relatively unique extractor design for a bolt action that is modeled after the m1 garand. The issue is only one person makes those rifles today and that is Legendary Arms Works (they bought the rights) however as I don’t have LAW manufactured rifle, they’re not willing to part with extractors.

Needless to say, what do you think would be the best route to go about having some of these made. CNC?

Do you know anyone who will machine extractors? They have to be made out of hardened steel. I’d like it to be not insanely priced per piece of possible.

It is essentially identical to the M1 in design, but with dimensional differences

Why not call them and ask which of their 'gunsmithing partners' they'd trust to fit the new extractor onto your bolt for you? That would probably be cheaper than having new extractors made from scratch.

It is not going to be cheap.... Unless you are willing to have A LOT of them made.
If I could keep it under $50 per extractor with an order of three or so, I would be happy. At that small quantity I may be better off with someone using a mill. Otherwise I’d do a larger CNC order, but obviously not at $50 a piece.

To have one hand made, but you are looking at better than $180........just my guess. CNC who knows.

May I ask, why you need another one?
I don’t ‘need’ another, but of all parts on a bolt action, the extractors is probably the most consumable. They can break. After investing quite a good bit of money into this build, I’d like to have some copies of this extractors made before it potentially breaks, and it’s more difficult to copy the dimensions.

It may never break, the whole idea is that this extractor is far more strong than a Remington 700 or Sako, but it’s nice to be sure.

Have you tried this?

While you have some fresh examples get someone with the appropriate equipment to scan them for dimensional drawings so you can have them replicated.
My exact thoughts. I figured I’d run them until one breaks, and before I even use the second, I’ll scan them. Maybe I should just do it now.

That's... interesting. The extractor swivels sideways on its post?

Given they're unobtainium, I think I'd wrap the spared in felt, stuff them in a small pill bottle, and bore a hole under the buttplate to make sure they are never separated from the gun...
