Well, the new BFR came in today, and I noticed this reddish discoloration. No amount of eezox would remove it. (Figured it is rust) How common is this on new SS revolvers?
Doesn't much look like rust. A machining chemical, dried coolant or layout dye.
Water or windex would remove coolant, acetone will take layout dye right off.
Or an artifact of heat treating, but I'm not sure how much of that is done to stainless.

My BFR in 45/70 was the same way I used Iosso Gun Brite polish to remove it , came right off if it doesn’t contact Magnum Research. It is not real common but does happen it could be from machining.
Thanks for the input gents! I will try some metal polish. My only other issue with the gun is that the seller took off the cylinder to take pics, and they didn't reinstall the base pin mechanism right, and its screw scratched the entire bottom of the barrel. Any thoughts on how to remove or smooth the marks? Thank god it is stainless steel! On a blued gun it would be super noticeable!
