Thanks to everyone for their input on my earlier question about the best ammo for my new old CZ 52. I went shooting today, and the gun cycled 25 rounds of S&B and 25 rounds of PPU without any sort of hiccup or malfunctions, so I'm very pleased with that.

The accuracy, I'd say, is more than adequate for defensive purposes, but maybe not quite what other folks say they have experienced. That doesn't really surprise me, however, because even though the gun isn't uncomfortable to hold or shoot, I wouldn't say it's a great fit either. It didn't feel like I had quite the control I would've had if I'd had a better grip.

I asked about the mag base plate finger extension I'd seen on ebay, and someone recommended against it, but I do feel the grip frame isn't long enough for my hand. I'm also wondering if there are aftermarket grips that are available, or even better, a rubber grip sleeve that anyone has had luck with. I'd prefer keeping the cool old grips on, even if there is a sleeve over them.

Overall, though, I like the gun. Seems well built, though kind of an odd design that I kind of had to get familiar with. A cool old gun from the 1950's that's affordable, has a lot of history, plenty of power and is a reliable shooter - I like it! :)

Hogue makes some grips for the 52...https://www.amazon.com/Hogue-CZ52-Pau-Ferro-Grip/dp/B001TE5IWG Their 'Large Tactical Grip sleeve' works OK too...if you like that kind of feel. I had one on for a while but ended up taking it off and just using it as it came stock.

What really helped my shooting was changing the sights...being the stockers are tiny and very difficult to use especially indoors. There used to be a ghost-ring available at Makarov.com..but it's no longer available. But just between you and me....this will do exactly the same thing.:) http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/sights/sight-accessories/ghost-ring-aperture-prod26052.aspx Takes a bit of file work to open the factory dovetail, but the difference in precision and shooting speed is amazing. Good luck with the CZ.:)

I'm a big advocate of using a small section of bicycle innertube for a grip sleeve.

Cut a 1.5-2" section of a $0.99 innertube and slide it up the frame, they stay in place well and can be customized. You can sandwich a strip of rubber here and there between two layers of innertube and put finger grooves or palm swells right exactly where you want.

I always appreciated the fireball at the muzzle and the fact that I could see daylight through the holes in the old log that held my targets.

You can re-size .32 ACP bullets to .308 if you want to shoot hollow points. They will shatter a 1 gallon milk jug full of water. Also, you can pull the FMJ bullets from milsurp ammo and load the cases with the resized bullets.
