CZ 550 American or Reminton 700 or Tikka in .243

I have a 550 American in 223
Did you mean .243? If not, when did they make a .223 in the 550?
CZ has a backwards safety though, something to consider.
Rimfires are forward for safe, rearward to fire, but not the centerfires. Centerfire CZs are the normal orientation -- forward to fire. You can see the safety in the forward, fire position in this photo.

Bought one!

After much see-sawing and debate..I made my selection. Tikka T3 light .270. May be overkill for P dogs, but what the heck. Bought a Redfield Revenge 3x9x42 scope. Have to mount it and then off to the range in the next week or so. For the casual one or two time hunt for whitetail is should be just fine.

Suggestions.....Sight it for 100 or 200 yards? I have a range with a 300 yard range not far from home, so I have some options.

Thanks for all your input and suggestions.

Yes and no. One caveat... the 550's are normal, the 527's (the 223's) are not... they're backwards like the rimfires. :)

My .270 Wins have been very accurate even with 90 grain HPs, and 100 grain SPs (both Speer brand). I had the 90 grain projectiles up to around 3,700 FPS. That was in a Weatherby Vanguard VGX.

Nice cartridge choice! Let us know how it shoots, and please post some pictures.

Sight your .270 for 200 yards. Better yet figure out your point blank range for the round you are shooting. Doing that minimizes the hold under or over.

^^^ True.

Some people seem obsessed with the safety thing, and others, like me, never give it a thought. I have about 14 CZ and BRNO rifles, including rimfires, 527s, and 550s, so the safeties are all mixed up with the forward/rear/center thing. I never recall it being an issue for me in the field. I don't see it being a big deal at all.

In addition to the CZ/BRNOs, I have a number of other guns. I just looked at my list of guns and counted a total of 14 different types of safeties. If I got bent out of shape over one not being "normal" I'd be nuts. :)

Yep. If you look at a ballistics chart, the flight of a .270 bullet is about the same as a .22-250. For white tails, I'm thinking you could stretch the 200 yard thing.

Good move on not getting the Remington. I've had a number of 700's over the years, and still have a couple. Mine are great, but they are older. Wouldn't buy another (new) after owning two CZ's and seeing the crap Remington is selling now. Sad.

I have narrowed it down. I have had a couple of CZ handguns and loved them so I have been looking at that brand. Remington is the tried and true. Tikka I am not familiar with, but they have been discussed as a good choice.

So, between the three, not considering price, what would your recommendation be?

Also synthetic versus wood? I like the look of wood but synthetic has some advantages........

Thoughts? Recommendations? suggestions?
my dad has a tikka in a 243 in the hunter model i think and its a real shooter. has a super trigger on it and its adjustable. his tikka has a slicker bolt than my sako. wish i had it.
