Mine (9mm 75B) is with just a fast firm pressure.
If I pull my pistol down from my sight picture, look at the mag and holder, pull the mag out, watch it go into the grip and lock in place; it won't release the slide.
When I pull the pistol back at eye-level from a shot while releasing the mag and drawing a new one, keeping eyes and sights at target level, insert the new mag fast indexing on the forefinger, the slide will release as I'm pushing the pistol out and loading the trigger for the break for the next shot.
The slide does not release unless a cartridge in the "inserted" mag strikes the top of the slide. An empty mag has nothing to strike the slide.
It's a very good thing. It is not unsafe.
