Are the CZ 75s in .40S&W any good? I was planning on getting a custom shop CZ75 SP01 .40 Tactical but was talking to a gunshop dude today who said that frame wasn't built for a .40 so it basically shouldn't be trusted.

I was thinking that the heavy steel frame and slide would really shine with the 40.

What do you guys say?

Thanks!

I have a CZ-75B in .40. It is great to shoot, and runs everything you can throw at it. I cannot speak to long term reliability, but it does have extended slide rails compared to the 9mm, and locks up very tight. Hard to imagine any lack of durability; far lesser guns (as far as build materials and overall beefiness) handle .40 just fine.

Are you planning to compete with the CZ? For the same money a 1911 in .40S&W would be my choice. I could be wrong, but the SP01 has an aluminum frame like the P01.

I a big fan of the 1911 and it has many features I prefer over the CZ75. However, price is not one of them.

The .40S&W is not a common round in the 1911 and if you can find one in that caliber, it will cost much more than a CZ75 in .40 S&W.

The SP01 is not aluminum, it is solid steel.

Alot of guns are chambered in .40 that were "not built for it" so... not sure what to tell you there. Its going to be fine I am sure.

All of my CZs have been drop dead reliable, some of them 100%.

I cannot say the same for 1911s at most of the shoots I have been to.

I am thinking this guy wants to sell you a more expensive .40 gun.

In all manufacturers the frame for the 9mm guns are the same at the ones for the 40's

That was the point of the 40 when it came out, it could be easily adapted to the 9mm frame.

CZs in 9mm have less issues than the .40S&W. The CZs SHINE in 9mm. I shoot Production class with mine.

I don't plan on competing, just want an accurate, full size, reliable, preferably all steel 40. I've only heard good things about the SP01 tactical 40 until I talked to that guy and he hasn't even shot one.

Do you guys see any reason not to get a CZ in 40?

My CZ-75b in .40S&W had initial malfunctions that were solved with a $4 Wolff extractor spring. Since then, I have no complaints. It's accurate and mild recoiling. I carry mine, although the SP-01 would be pretty heavy if you plan on carrying. As far as your "gunshop dude" and his assertions that CZ frames can't handle .40S&W... hahahahahaha!

Great gun!... Nice recoil, VERY ACCURATE, smooth trigger and great 'ergos'... Get one, you'll love it!...
Behind my P-01, a favorite to shoot!

Matai you can't go wrong with a CZ 75 B in .40 cal. I have my eyes on one as my next buy. I already have a Tanfoglio with a .40Cal top end but want the 75B to play IDPA. You wpn't be sorry.

Take Care

Bob

Don't pay too much attention about " X was build in A caliber, therefore it won't take B caliber" comments. The top of CZ line is CZ Champion, and might come to surprise to many, it's in 40s&w only.

The example I always use is Sig's famous P220. One of top 45acp pistol. Few knows it was first introduce in 9mm.

If you like 40s&w, get one. If you like 9mm better, get 9. I'm a fan of both calibers.
