The slide won't come off of my CZ 82. The mag is removed and I pull out the trigger guard for dis-assembly and the slide moves down the rails freely but hangs up at the end and won't come off the rails. I would really appreciate some help with this from someone who is familiar with the CZ 82.
Thanks

It's a little more involved than that. Normally that would work but the slide won't lift off the rails. The slide will lift right off. Something is binding and not allowing removal. Don't think it is the ejector or slide stop but I'm not sure. I was just thinking I'd like to know what it is before I take it to the gunsmith. Thanks for the reply

Is the magazine out?

Other then that, it just about has to be the recoil spring stacking up before the slide comes back far enough to lift it up in the rear.

Slam it back hard as you can and try it again.

I'm slamming the fire out of it RC. I've even tried pushing the slide open really hard on the edge of a table but no joy so far.

Did you get the slide off?

I was just looking at my CZ82 and the only thing I could think of is if the trigger guard didn't stay completely down, or something broke off in the area under the barrel keeping the slide from moving all the way back.

I had a Beretta once that had its ejector pins walk out into the slide rail groove that caused the same kind of problem. However, the CZ looks like its ejector pin would be retained by the rail and wouldn''t go into the groove.

I discovered after changing the spring in my P-64 (different gun, but same action design and disassembly method) that it can make it difficult to get the slide off due to the minimum compression distance of the new spring being slightly longer. While I've always been able to remove the slide by hand, you may need to force the slide back against a table and then give the rear of it an upwards whack with a rubber mallet. I strongly recommend you do this over soft carpet or have a cushion below it when you do it, as there's a good chance the slide will fly off and hit the floor.

The problem largely occurs due to the differing tolerances on these guns. The cutouts in the rails aren't 100% the same from example to example, so you may have less room to get the slide off on some guns than others. My father's P-64, for example, does not exhibit this problem. The good news is that, once you DO get it removed, fixing it is relatively simple if you are so inclined, and just involves a bit of filing (to either slide or frame) to open up the release area by maybe half a millimeter.

Make sure safety is off or in fire position. Pull trigger guard down and pull back and up on the slide then slide off front. You may have to hold the slide and whack the fame to the rear.
