Not sure if anyone else has seen this, but AIM Surplus has CZ-82 pistols in stock. They are shooter grade, but they're only $249.95 each. Been a while since CZ-82s have popped up. I noticed that AIM got a small shipment that sold out in a day about a week ago. They were nice ones, but were sold for $289.95. I figure I could buy a CZ-82 in shooter grade and use it as a project gun and reblue it and throw some nice grips on it and basically transform it into a like new pistol for less than $300.

You'll have to explain why you think it's a terrible round. Sportsmanship Guide has Mak ammo in stock for $13.30/50 rounds and that's the first site I checked. They've got Hornady XTP JHPs as well

Like My CZ-82

The CZ-82 is a good gun. I got mine with the spare mag, original holster, and tool, back when they were cheaper. I especially like the feel, round capacity, accuracy, reliability, and more power than the .380 cousin delivers.
My only objection is the heavy weight when using it for CCW. Perry Suspenders ($ 11.99 delivered to your door from WalMart) seem to alleviate that difficulty.
AIM's current price for "a shooter" still seems reasonable. Better "latch on" to one while they are available.
(No, I don't work for WalMart or AIM). Get 'em while they're hot!

Aside from caliber and front of the trigger guard, these are the same as the CZ 83's right? Man, that was an awesome little pistol. Why I ever got rid of it is beyond me.

Glad I got mine when they were selling at $150.

Fun little gun. Crazy accurate. Mine's not a fan of Silver Bear JHP's, but eats everything else.

Got mine when they were $200. Actually, I had three of them, but I'm down to one -- the first one I bought. It wasn't the prettiest of the three, but it had the best trigger.

I got one back when they were $180.00 or so. Good little pistol. Kinda heavy though, and for some reason I always thought 9x18 pistols had a really unpleasant recoil. Not really hard, just "unpleasant."

I never kept any of them long.

The CZ82 is an awesome pistol

Its a little heavy, a little more cumbersome to strip

However

The 9 Mak round is getting more expensive than 9mm,
and is not as potent as a 9mm.

As surplus goes, the low cost deals are long gone as well

I always worry if availability will dry up on rounds like this

Its something to consider.

Nice pistol
Nice capacity
Terrible round
Awful pricing and availability

What is terrible about the 9x18? There are a lot of very good choices of ammunition out there. Barnaul FMJ is very reliable and their JHP performs well in ballistic gel. Check youtube videos.

I wish I had brought two also before the banic hit.

The CZ-82 and 83 are neither fish or fowl for most American shooters. With it's 12 round magazine it is a bit on the large size for conceal carry yet a bit on the small size for law enforcement duty use. Typical commie gun being overbuilt, a bit heavy and very reliable.

The choice of cocked and locked or double action makes it appealing to both sides of carry. They are very comfortable shooters and, since ammo is made in U.S., supply should not to a concern.

Spot on !:)
Also accurate, and said to have out shot a Glock.:D

They have their place. They are excellent range guns, for fun, practical shooting. They nicely fill the niche between the smaller .380 CCW guns, the heavier-recoiling 9mm and .45 CCW guns, and the large heavy target guns. They also have better sights than most of the comparable milsurp options.

One of mine serves as my woods carry gun on my property. I have no fear of wolves or giant bears here, but coyotes have been know to attack local dogs, and I've dispatched a few probably-rabid skunks and raccoons over the years. It has plenty of power and it won't blow your eardrums out, and you won't feel the need to carry a second magazine. I also appreciate the painted finish, already slightly pre-dinged by the former owner. There's no need to baby it and it rides happily in an inexpensive, plastic paddle holster.

For my needs the only way t make it better is to chamber it for .32 acp. I finally found one of those, too, but it's too pretty to get beat up on the daily dog walk. I wish the .32s were as cheap and easy to find as the larger versions.

For an authentic CZ Czech factory magazine, CZ-USA: $44.
Cheaper imitations are available. Good luck.

The reliable mags are manufactured in Uhersky Brod, and shipped to you from Kansas City.

A gun small enough to carry might beat a handgun which is not handy enough to carry.

Most of us realize this, but many novices might not know this: All magazines are "factory magazines". Maybe wording on packages/ads of aftermarket brands is not always meant to be deceptive, but the various marketing angles can be misleading.

Some aftermarket brands seen on GB etc have "CZ**" or such stamped on the bottom.
Is it ironic that my new mag produced in Uhersky Brod (on the package), Czech Republic has No markings?

You can buy new factory magazines from J&G Sales for $20.00.

These mags are not CZ factory mags. I bought one, after I spent some time fiddling with it I got it to feed but it still will not allow the slide to lock back on the last shot. If you have factory mags you'll notice the difference in quality right away. These are not made by CZ, I would recommend using them only at the range.

The CZ82 is a good pistol. I have several. It has it's place. Particularly great trigger and good capacity at 12+1 I believe.

Back when these were under $200, and new handguns were $400, it was a bargain. But C&Rs have increased and new guns decreased in prices.

So the CZ has it has downfalls. The price is around $250-300 for a good working sample and spare parts and mags are hard to find and expensive. The 9x18 is generally considered less potent for self defense, while also generally more expensive and less available.

For a little more money, one can get a modern 9mm pistol (generally with warranty, common parts, etc.), and the 9x19 will be more potent and less expensive...

I.O. & Furncliff,

Did you guys bother to read J & G's ad before you posted? It says;

"These are factory CZ magazines... Factory new mags from CZ, with no retail packaging."

The extra magazines I brought look the same as the ones that came with the gun so I have no reason to believe J & G is being deceptive. They all work fine in my gun. Seeing that the CZ-82 was a service gun for many years I am not surprised that they are unmarked.

If you have any proof the J&G is engaging in deceptive sales please post it.

I bought some from J&G and promptly returned them, eating the shipping costs both ways.

I think the "mfg CZ" stamp on the bottom of the mag does not refer to Ceska Zbrojovka in the Czech Republic, but ChuZhou in China. Maybe J&G doesn't know. Mine looked just like the ones pictured in the ad...vertical seam on the front and back.
