I'm getting my taxes done tomorrow, and while most of it is earmarked for one thing or another I will have a little bit left over ($500.00 maybe) for myself. I've been wanting to buy a new handgun, I have a few already. I've been thinking about a CZ-75 Compact. There seem to be a lot of good reviews of most of the modern CZ line. Has anybody had a bad experience with them, or know of any specific pro's and con's concerning them?

You won't find many negatives about the CZ line. I have a bit over 1000 rounds through my 85 Combat, and it is wonderful.

i recently picked up a P-01. love the ergonomics, but the double action pull was horrible. i think the double action pull is a common complaint with the P-01...but i sent it into EGW for an action job. i should have it back in the beginning of april.

Have two SP01s and love them..been reliable and accurate..

the triggers are little heavy but tend to smooth out with use..I did have action jobs done on mine and they are beautiful...

lots of info on CZ at CZshooters and CZforum

I really like CZ's and am probably going to purchase one this year. Only negatives from the couple that I've shot. DA pull is a little long if you have small hands. Also both CZ 75's that I shot didn't like Winchester Whitebox 115gr. Both suffered from FTE's with the stuff. I actually passed up on a good deal because of this.

Thats strange on the WWB. I fed a couple of 1000 rounds of it through my 75B with no problems. Goes to show you how each gun is different.

SP-01 has a steel frame.
P-01 has a forged alloy frame.
PCR has a cast alloy frame.
Most CZ extraction problems can be solved by adding a Wolff extractor spring.

If you're not comfortable with cocked-and-locked carry (possible, but not necessary, with the 75 Compact), you might want to check out the PCR, which is basically the same gun with decocker (no manual safety) and an alloy frame. The alloy frame is noticeably lighter.

I've got several CZs and have had a bunch more. They're good guns. (I don't like the decocker models, but that's a matter of personal preference; nothing wrong with the decocker guns.)

SP01....

It does indeed have a steel frame, my bad...sorry.

Great guns with plenty of good choices in the price range. I recently picked up a stainless 75 for around $500 out the door. Great gun and accurate as sin. It rivals many much more expensive 1911s I have shot that were supposed to be tuned to "match grade" accuracy. CZs often do that in my experience.

Lots of good info here, I want to thank everyone for their responses.
I think I'm convinced. It seems as though noone has any real complaints about the CZ's.

people do complain...

I love mine dearly but I would change some things if I could. But since I can't I just have to suffer through life with one of the greatest pistols ever made.

Those sp-01's and p-01's are really calling my name. My wife and kid will never understand what I give up so that they may eat.

I really like the PCR for concealed carry, but prefer the P-01 for duty use.

Don't forget to take a look at the RAMI for concealed carry.

If you do decide to buy a CZ, do not be too concerned if the action is a little rough. Just dry fire it a lot and it will smooth up. I dry fired my PCR approximately 1000 times, using a snap cap. It is now nice and smooth. :)

+1 for the CZ 75 compact
I love mine. Only complaint was the flimsy guide rod but that was easily fixed with a stainless steel one from Jack Ash Custom.:D My wife liked it so much she kinda adopted it from me.

My CZ75 compact has been totally reliable. Change out the horrible plastic grips and dry fire it a lot to improve the trigger (or spend the bucks and get a trigger job). Liked mine so much I got a CZ75 Tactical as well.

3 minor complaints and 1 major

Hi I have a couple minor complaints about my CZs. I have broken a couple slide stops in my 75b. I would just order a couple now and stick them in a drawer. 2nd I had to replace the bushing on my 97b and it wasn't as accurate with the new star bushing and 3rd they didn't come out with the stainless finish until I had already bought my guns!

But the biggest complaint is that I started with one and now I'm up to 5!

Can't comment on the 75 compact directly...vut as far as CZ in generals goes...I bought a SP-01 last week and shot it for the first time this weekend.

Love it.

Very pleased so far.
