CZ P-01 hurts my hand to charge it.

I believe I like the gun, but it's really hard to load this thing. There's just so little there to grab onto to cycle it and every time I do it I grimace a little. Granted, we're not talking about a deal-breaker here, but there's certainly a minor downside to this rail design. (Yeah, there's plenty of upside too.)

Anyway, took it to the range for the first time yesterday and it functioned flawlessly. I ccw'd it today and it dug into my love handles pretty good. I'll need a holster that covers the slide on the interior. I never really identified that as an advantage of my glocks or other flat-sided autos before.

The guy at the gun store mentioned the P-01 was spec-ed for NATO ammo which would explain a stiffer spring. It's certainly a nice piece.
 
It was difficult for me at first too. The first time I held a CZ 75, I thought "man, I love the way this feels, but I can't hardly retract the slide!" Then I fiddled with a P-01 a few months later and I was getting the hang of it. Now that I own one, I've gotten pretty good at it. Just practice.
 
It isn't that bad, wait till you get a Kadet kit, the little slide isn't hard to retract because of the spring, it's hard to retract because it's in between the slide housing, which is fixed, and the frame, which is wider than the slide, making it really tough to get a good grip on.

It will get better with use. I notice my PCR also digs me. The Glock 27 makes me spoiled I guess.
 
I agree with G23. I handled a SP01 in a store a couple weeks ago and noticed the slide was hard to rack. With the hammer cocked it wasnt as bad.

For me, operating any new gun is a little awkward at first. After I learn the best way to handle it, it gets a lil easier. New guns are tight at first also, after a few 100rds they should break in some and be easier to operate.
 
My P-01 is difficult to rack the slide on, as well. I do think this will improve with practice, and there are techniques which can make the process easier (ie: pulling the slide back, while "pushing" the frame forward, in a safe direction and manner, with your finger OFF the trigger).
 
I confess I really hadn't noticed the slide gripping surface thing, but I haven't had an auto in the house that wasn't CZ for some time. I am glad it worked well for you, as my P01 is my constant companion. If you want cheap rig, the Bianchi M-100 IWB clip on has a high sweat sheild that might help - I think I have my old one laying about here soimewhere. I use an HBE COMIII IWB right now, and it is the most comfortable holster I have ever used.

Cock the Hammer first

As Gary G23 and Pilot have already said, cock the hammer first. Then de-cock and you are ready to go.
 
The P-01 is on the super short(3) list of non-pocket autos that I actually might want to own. And the pocket autos are there just because I think they're neat.
 
Just bought a brand spankin NIB P-01 last night.

I shot a well-used uncleaned range rental version and that version was considerably easier to operate the slide, the hammer, the slide-stop lever and the de-cocker...

I just believe the gun in Brand NEW form is a little stiff. I'm sure after a few rounds it'll get into a nice groove.

Anyone know where I can get a nice set of checkered Wood grips for my P-01? the rubber is nice for now but since the rubber contacts the mags, it makes em a bit sticky to insert and they don't drop free as easily as the well-used range version.

Wood or Hard plastic would be fine. Do the CZ75 /75B/85 grips fit the P-01?

SN, I can't recommend Marschal highly enough. He's very good and very reasonable. You'll get the grips in about 5-6 wks.

I have a PCR Compact. Yes, I will concede this point. ;) However, its accuracy, reliability, ergonomics, DA trigger pull and looks are far more important points. :) I complain more about the "scrunchy-crunchy" SA trigger pull than slide racking.
 
i had the same problem with my baby eagle and i found that with my weak hand, hook your index finger between the first and second knuncle from the tip, around the front of the rear sight and pull. works great for me, i use it for chamber checks too. thumb on edge of beavertail, finger around rear sight and pull til the hammer touches your thumb. very controlled motion. shows about a 3/8 inch out of battery. may not work to well on adj sighted guns but you said this is a carry piece. hope this helps
 
On the holster, you might want to ck out a cross breed supertuck IWB holster, they completely cover the gun to keep from gouging.
 
I have a SP-01, but I've had my CZ 75 for years before getting the SP-01. So I've never experenced this problem before. Sounds like the shout out is to cock the hammer and then decock it. I'm not sure. I've got 2 CZ75s, SP-01, and CZ97BD and I've had no problems, even it they been sitting around for a while, which is rare. Hope you find some good advice and sorry I wasn't much help. Good Luck...and don't let this sour you on CZs they are AWESOME guns!!!
