Sometime after I purchased my CZ Shadow 2, I had the chance to handle a Tactical Sport Orange.
I was short on funds so I had to pass on it, but liked the feel of it.

One of the things that I liked a lot was the thumb rest, so I started looking into it.
I found several options but most required drilling the frame, I and I was hesitant to do that.
I did find another option though.

No modifications to the gun were needed, just pop out the original slide lock and install this.
Here it is with the original for comparison.

And installed.

Off to the range I go.
First concern was that by putting thumb pressure on the slide lock, would it effect the slide locking back on the last shot? After 10 magazines, the gun performed flawlessly with the slide locking back ever last shot.

First impression was that it did aid in stabilizing my hold on the gun and I feel that my follow up shots were quicker and more accurate.

The down side was the aggressive grooves in the rest really make the thumb raw after 5 or 6 magazines.
I work with my hands, so it was not the tender nature of my hands. This thing is like a meat grinder.

So, back home I go where I remove the new goody and head out to the shop. I chucked it up in a small vice and started working down the grooves with a fine flat file.
At first I tried just knocking off the sharp edges. I reinstalled it and asked myself why it even needed anything for traction?
Back out to the shop where I continued filing it until totally smooth. Reblued it and put it back on.

Next trip to the range was a success. I had the same positive results as I did with it the first round, but was able to go through three boxes of 9mm and still have a thumb print!

At $79.00 it was a bit pricey, especially for an item that I ended up modifying, but the end result was worth it fo rme.

Does it still work with the standard holster for the Shadow 2?

It looks like a nice design, but it wouldn’t work for me. My weak hand thumb indexes on the frame somewhere around the word “Czech”... bringing it all the way back to the slide release would compromise my grip.

Yeah I can see how that might tenderize your thumb! Good job of making the necessary mods to get it to work right by you!

I don't have a holster for mine. It is just a range gun for me. I feel that it would snag in a holster though.
If I were to use it in a holster, I would just put the original slide lock back in place.
I would also imagine that a holster for TS Orange would have provisions for the thumb rest.

The bolt on rests I looked at bolted to the frame around the Made in Czech Republic stamping. As I recall they were also adjustable, but would still be a problem in a holster not made to clear a thumb rest.

Also, without the rest my thumb naturally rest farther forward. I think this design is just a compromise for those like myself that just do not want to modify the frame of our expensive guns.
However, even set back as far as it is, I feel it is a substantial benefit over no rest at all.

Is that legal for USPSA Production? I know you said it's your range gun but I was just curious.

It will fit the required size dimensions. At least that is what I was told.

Fitting the box isn't the issue, it's that you've made an external modification. That puts you in Limited or Open division, unless the rules changed.

There was some discussion in the Brian Enos forum about whether it fell under the “small parts” rule or not. Eemann Tech says it’s not legal for Production, but some on Enos was saying it was. I didn’t see a definitive ruling referenced.

It is 10 seconds to switch it back to stock if it became a problem.

Ok, I get it.
I have not really looked into any type of competition, but would like to at some point and that was another reason why I did not want to do a permanent modification to the gun.
