Sometime after I purchased my CZ Shadow 2, I had the chance to handle a Tactical Sport Orange.
I was short on funds so I had to pass on it, but liked the feel of it.
One of the things that I liked a lot was the thumb rest, so I started looking into it.
I found several options but most required drilling the frame, I and I was hesitant to do that.
I did find another option though.
No modifications to the gun were needed, just pop out the original slide lock and install this.
Here it is with the original for comparison.
And installed.
Off to the range I go.
First concern was that by putting thumb pressure on the slide lock, would it effect the slide locking back on the last shot? After 10 magazines, the gun performed flawlessly with the slide locking back ever last shot.
First impression was that it did aid in stabilizing my hold on the gun and I feel that my follow up shots were quicker and more accurate.
The down side was the aggressive grooves in the rest really make the thumb raw after 5 or 6 magazines.
I work with my hands, so it was not the tender nature of my hands. This thing is like a meat grinder.
So, back home I go where I remove the new goody and head out to the shop. I chucked it up in a small vice and started working down the grooves with a fine flat file.
At first I tried just knocking off the sharp edges. I reinstalled it and asked myself why it even needed anything for traction?
Back out to the shop where I continued filing it until totally smooth. Reblued it and put it back on.
Next trip to the range was a success. I had the same positive results as I did with it the first round, but was able to go through three boxes of 9mm and still have a thumb print!
At $79.00 it was a bit pricey, especially for an item that I ended up modifying, but the end result was worth it fo rme.
