Posted this on another site, thought I might try THR for more insight:
I have a CZ550 Lux that I bought new around three months ago, and now I am beginning to notice an issue with its three-position safety. When on full safe, (position three) the trigger and bolt are locked. When pushed forward it is supposed to go into the second position, which blocks the trigger but leaves the bolt unlocked, and finally when pushed forward again, it goes into the first position which leaves both the trigger and bolt unlocked, ready to fire.
Ok, the problem I am having is that when transitioning from position 3(full safe) to position 2, the safety seems to shoot past the second detent and stop in a position halfway between 2 (bolt free/trigger deactivated) and 1 (safety off). If I pull the trigger here in that odd position between 1 and 2, I can feel the sear releasing, but the striker stays put... but if I then push the safety into position 1, the striker is suddenly released and the gun would fire if a cartridge were chambered. This skipping the second detent only happens when going from position 3(on) to 2, not from 1(off) to 2. Also, it only skips the second detent when the bolt is in place. Remove the bolt and the safety lever stops where it should.
Needless to say this is quite unsettling. Can anyone give me any advice or contact info on a gunsmith who is familiar with CZ rifle actions? Note I am not in the States so "just call CZUSA" is not an option AFAIK.
