My two year old Savage 10BA with accu-trigger has not been shot a lot, maybe 200 rounds.

Sometimes the "safety" on the trigger locks up and will not move. This of course means you can't pull the actual trigger to fire the shot. Elevating the bolt handle, but not pulling the bolt back, then locking the bolt again will unlock the safety and trigger. Sometimes I have to move the bolt handle several times to get it working. Additionally when the safety blade is locked up the manual safety behind the bolt cannot be moved back to the safe position.

I've never adjusted the trigger pull. It's as it came from the factory.

Any ideas on what to check? I can contact Savage but thought I'd check here first.

Thanks.

Sounds like you have trigger/sear issues. Bolt follow is occurring, and the safety portion of the accutrigger is catching the firing mech. Either your sear engagement is too light, or the surfaces/angles have issue. Maybe look for dried grease or other debris.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Today I'll pull the action from the stock and inspect the trigger sear area for debris. I'll spray the trigger area with gun scrubber or brake cleaner and see if it helps any.

It's most annoying because it doesn't happen every time. Maybe 1 out of 10 or 12 times.

So far I've only cleaned it with a few patches and CLP. I've never dropped any oil into the action.

Is a bore guide a good idea? Never used one but I know the bench rest shooters use them.

I have nearly 4,000 through mine.
Several weeks ago I was at a competition and the temperature was down around 30F and snowing. I was shooting the BA with gloves for the first time.
I had the trigger reset on me several times. Even the slightest sideways pressure on the accutrigger will trip the safety.

I have the same rifle. It did exactly as you described. The problem was the trigger pull was adjusted too light. Mine was around 1 lb when malfunctioning. Once it was adjusted to about 1.5 lb it was ok.

To adjust the trigger pull you need to remove the action from the stock and use a special tool to turn the trigger return spring in the trigger group in the right direction.

Hope this helps.

I'll try that as soon as I find my manual to see the action removal sequence. The trigger is very light.

I shot a friend's Kimber in 25-06 this week. Very nice trigger on that rifle.

I had the same problem on a Model 11 Varmit. I found the trigger pull spring about 3/4 round too light. I still had a 1 1/2 # pull after tightening the spring. You can adjust the trigger too light.
I realize I am late to the party, but hope I contributed to somebody's problem resolution.
