I found a leather pouch set in my late father in laws shop. It's marked D.R.G.M. and has somebody's initials in gold on the pouch. Seems to be in pretty good shape and well made. Were these actual tools or just an early, guessing pre-WW2, version of "The Sharper Image" stuff we see today?

From what I found online is essentially what you thought it was: an actual knife/multi-tool kit made in Germany. Most seem to contain various implements, like an auger, saw, files, corkscrew, screwdriver, chisel, along with the knife. The D.R.G.M. acronym stands for Deutsches Reichbrauchsmuster which was like a way for inventors to register their inventions or designs with the government. More like a copyright rather than a patent, it was good for 3 years plus with an option for 3 more years. It was considered a less expensive way to protect your product rather than applying for a patent.

I posted about these not too long ago. I became fascinated by them and the various manufacturers and bought several different sets. I was impressed.
I must have that missed the post or it didn't register at the time.
I don't see a maker's name on it but maybe with better light, and stronger glasses, it might show up.

Edit- Found the post hso. Back in July, heck, I read it then too...
