"It feels like a bazooka — and sounds like a cannon."
So he's fired a bazooka and been close to a cannon when fired??

"The recoil bruised my shoulder."
An AR-15 firing the 5.56mm cartridge? Really?

"The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face."
Flies and gnats must make him crazy.

"The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick."
Destruction? Wonder what he destroyed. A paper target, maybe?

"The explosions — loud like a bomb — gave me a temporary case of PTSD."
An AR-15 - like a bomb? Wow, he must be all knowing and wise.

"For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable."
Definitely do NOT what this person buying any firearms.

"In fully automatic mode, it doesn’t take any imagination to see dozens of bodies falling in front of your barrel."
There is no "fully automatic mode with an AR-15. It is a semi-auto rifle.

Conclusion? This guy's a total wuss.

The recoil of an AR-15 bruised his shoulder? Riiiiiiiight....

The brass casings flying past his face from a semi-automatice rifle with a side-ejection port disoriented him? Riiiiiiiight....

The smell of sulpher (In modern smokeless powders? I don't think so.) and destruction (Destruction has a smell?) made him sick? Riiiiiiiight....

The "explosions" were like a "loud bomb"? Riiiiiiiight.... Sounds more like no hearing protection and no experience with what actual bombs sounds like.

He needs to turn in his man card.

EDIT:

OMG! I just read the author's name! In the interest of taking the high road, I will not go into specifics, but I nearly doubled up laughing and though to myself "How prophetic!"

I wish I still had my Savage M1917 (and that it was not 2254)--I'd be seeing if M2 Ball and a metal buttplate would hurt my shoulder.

I did not know Savage made M1917 rifles. Winchester, Remington, Eddystone are all I have ever heard of.

Well, the article gave me PTSD so I guess we are even.

Seriously though, I bruise on a dime. I even get bruises if I fire my .357 m92 for more than 30 rounds or so. I can't even really feel any perceptible recoil on an AR15 (.223). As ridiculously pansy as my shoulders are, I could fire one all day and not bruise. It sounds like the author might have a serious thin blood type condition... Or be full of B.S. I know what my guess is.

Is hyperbole taught in journalism school these days?

This is the highest form of Yellow Journalism.

Bruised his shoulder? Provide proof with pictures, because I guarantee unless this fellow is a hemophiliac, there was no bruise.

Brass flying past his face? Is the journalist left handed? If not, then it's doubtful any brass flew past his face.

Can left off a dozen rounds without knowing what happened? How did you pull the trigger 12 times without knowing what happened?

You don't have PTSD for a couple of hours..and if you think shooting a gun is so disorienting, why are you arguing that it is easy to mow down people with one? You are making it sound like shooting a gun is akin to having a flash bang go off in your hands.

There are people who like to buy muscle cars and drive fast, and there are those who are happy with a Prius. There are people who love rollercoasters, and those who get scared riding them. There are those who love hand-gliding or parachuting, and those afraid of heights. There are those who enlist to fight on behalf of our country, and those who become liberal arts majors.

I don't care if he is one of the latter. I care that he wants to suppress people who are the former.

This is an insult to people that actually suffer from PTSD. This "reporter", if you can call him that, is a real... I'll keep it High Road.

If modified to fully automatic mode, it doesn’t take any imagination to see dozens of bodies falling in front of your barrel.

Wow.... just wow.... apparently this is a really easy modification that can be done by my 6 year old niece (the 6 year old that doesn't get bruised by an AR). I guess that RDIAS that I saw go for $28,000 on gun broker a few weeks back is something that all of us have laying around.

(Snicker) The smell of spent gunpowder and destruction is kind of the effect I'm looking for.

My son bruises his shoulder every time he shoots my Winchester Model 94. I keep telling him to draw the butt into his shoulder but he doesn't listen. from .223 to .308, he hasn't bruised his shoulder once with any of my black rifles.

Curious.

If you were going to break the law with it why would you buy a $28K RDIAS? You'd buy a $200 home shop built one or build one yourself. Lets be honest . Its a simple gun to make go full auto . Not that that helps you actually hit anything.

Not for a guy who gets bruised and PTSD from an AR! Haha!

Interesting what the range owner said.

"How many sick people do we have on the streets? Whole country?

Many. A lot.

Why people this way? I ask myself sometime and I cannot find the answer.
"

BINGO!

It is for this reason why the law abiding citizens of this country need something like AR-15. There are people who will harm others (and have) and we need effective means to defend our lives against these sick people.

What will this reporter say when his city/neighborhood is hit by terror attacks and police do not have enough resources to provide immediate protection and security?

What?!
Calling 911 won't help when someone is shooting at me?!
Darn!
I need an AR-15!
Damn the bruises and loud noise!
I need to protect my life now!
Frank! (range owner)
I take back what I said about AR-15!
Sell me an AR-15!

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

While this fellow may have been "traumatized" from shooting an AR, it doesn't matter if it is true, it is a purposeful attack on the AR to help persuade the general public non gun owner for support on gun control. Demonizing the AR 15 by saying things like "military weapon", "assault rifle", "powerful", "killing machines", etc, etc is old hat for the antis.

Many years ago they had a piece on TV showing the POWER of an AR15 by shooting a watermelon. Well, the .223 didn't do much damage, so the film crew used a more powerful caliber (.30-06?) to make the affect on the melon impressive, because the shot from the .223 was very unimpressive. They got caught, and had to own up, but the damage was done, millions of unknowing voters now thought the AR 15 and the .223 would explode a watermelon. Oh the horror!

The antis have been telling lies about guns as long as I can remember. They know they are lying, they don't care.

So, this fellow might be a scardy cat for real, but he is doing exactly what the antis want. It's planned.

As I recall, women have shot ARs in the modern military match at the local gun club without going into hysterics like that reporter.

Indeed. And a lot of youngsters of both genders. And people who have never fired a weapon in their life.

The "reporter" (and I'm being charitable using that word considering this is the NY Daily News) is a candy.

Ok, we've gotten all the entertainment value we should out of this and we don't need this to be an invitation to comments unworthy of us.

Let's put it to bed.
