I just purchased a Sig 229 E2. It's double/single action but I'm thinking I might want to have it converted to DAK. Can anyone tell me how the DAK double action pull compares to the DA pull on my DA/SA gun? Is it lighter or is it the same pull as a standard? Thanks.

Well, let me just say this. The Massachusetts State Police has been using the P226 DAK in .40 for the past 7 or 8 years. They just changed over to the S&W M&P 45 because their DAK SIGs were breaking at a fairly rapid pace. Apparently the DAK wears parts earlier than traditional DA/SA pistols.

This isn't a big deal if you don't put a lot of rounds downrange. If you shoot thousands of rounds a year then it may become an issue.

Are you sure it can be "converted"? I was told mine could not be, but I like DA/SA just fine. I must be the only one ........

6.5 lbs is about right for the primary trigger pull on a DAK. As far as I've heard all the E2 229s could be converted from DA/SA to DAK.

- which model 229 do you have that they told you could not be converted

I have both a DAK 229 and a traditional DA/SA 229. Both are in 40. The DAK pull is 6.5 and is sweet smooth and easy to shoot. Of course I grew up shooting DA revolvers and the DAK trigger system is like every revolver shooter's dream.

As for the DAK being fragile, I don't understand that. The Department of Homeland Security just adopted the Sig after an exhaustive test of pistols with tens of thousands of rounds being fired through each pistol. If the DAK system was weak then it should have failed that test. I wonder if the Mass Police department got a bad batch or something.

This second link has a bit more information and confirms that the DAK trigger systems was adopted by the Homeland security and notes that this trigger system is very popular with LEOs

Here is another article from a gun rag about the adoption of the 229 DAK by homeland security.

I converted a 226 from DAK to DA/SA, and an opening the frame had to be right, to make the conversion. Was the best thing I could have done to the gun! I also traded straight up with someone on Sigforum, for the parts, saved me hundreds of dollars over buying them. The DAK pull is very smooth, but shooting rapid fire, way to long for me to get used to.

I've had one DAK 239, and didn't like the trigger. A friend has a 226 DAK that is sweet. I'd still have the 239 had it been that nice.

I like the smoothness of a good DAK trigger, and the consistency of the pull from shot to shot. I used to do a lot of IDPA, and you'd see the first groups from a DA/SA gun never as tight as subsequent groups -- the DA/SA transition is a real issue for some shooters.
