Dan Wesson 357 with a four inch barrel

So i just traded an old Romanian WASR10 with a tapco intrafuse stock set and some mags for a Dan Wesson in 357, I hear that you can get the barrel sets and son and so forth but would any of you say I got jipped at all? I personally think i came out on top because the 357 is more practical for me but I was just wondering about the value of each of these guns.

You did good. I had a Dan Wesson 15-2 revolver years ago that I foolishly traded for a Win. 94 30-30. Most accurate wheel gun I ever owned. I'm still kicking myself about it. Enjoy your DW.

Hard to carry the wasr10 any were but the range.
Very hard to beat a DW 357. unless it was a S&W

WASR's are very common and one in a Tapco stock reduces it's value even more. Dan Wesson's while not rare shoot very very well and can go from concealed carry to the deer woods in about 1 minute.

Barrels are available up to 12 inches maybe 15, check the DW website, someone is making barrels and shrouds in custom configurations at reasonable prices. I think ya done good.

Been firing DW´s since 78 when I got my first 15-2. I generally figure the frame at 230-250. Then barrels any more seem to be running $30 an inch and more. So I would figure to get a 15-2 DW for anywhere around $320 and up. Condition is everything. Gunbroker always has numerous 15-2´s for sale so you can see what people are paying. But you now have one of the most accurate-strongest double action revolvers made.
Barrels are available from CZ/Dan Wesson. They have numerous sizes. EWKARMS also makes DW parts. He has a fast twist barrel for heavy bullets. Then there is the gun sites where barrels & shrouds are for sale. At the DW Forum there are items for sale.
The DW Forum is also the best place to get info how to set your revolver for optimum accuracy. You are gonna like this revolver.

If your gun has adjustable sights and the barrel shroud doesn't come down to the front of the trigger guard (pork chop model) then you can get barrels and accessories for it, and you made a good deal as the price on DW's is going up and they are great shooters. Check out www.danwessonforum.com it's where the DW owners hang out and one of the members makes some replacement parts and barrels for cheaper than CZ/DW. Warning; they really like to see pic's of your prize...

With an 8" or 10" barrel and scope, your Dan Wesson is probably more accurate at 100 yards than the WASR10 was.

Wow, that looks like a near identical twin to my 715. It even has a scratch on the shroud at almost the exact same place. Only real difference is mine has a custom sight on it. That gun was about the second best deal I ever made on an auction. I got the 6" VH shroud, the gun, three grips, two identical to the ones in the pic above, and a nice aftermarket finger groove grip, in the original box, with the manual, a few parts, and the wrench. $269.

It's not a scratch, it's a dog hair... Since taking that photo, the front sight has been replaced with an EWK Arms fiber optic front sight.

I bought my DW 25 years go or so... $200 for an used 8"V 15-2 w/ box and accesories, and subsequently bought a new 4"VH barrel/shroud for $110. Later I came across a used 715 6"VH barrel/shroud for $40 - that was too good a deal to pass up! Yeah, it looks kinda funky to have that stainless shroud on a blue gun, but it shoots good!

I took off the factory oversize target stock and tried others until I settled on a Pachmyr Gripper.

Yes, and posted a thread on that one when I got it last January. I need to add a DW .222 to the collection and hopefully a .44.

In the early 80's I had the opportunity to spend a bit of time with Seth Wesson and his wife Carol. It was really cool to get a demonstration of the features and operation direct from the source and listen to some great stories. And his wife made a killer blueberry coffeecake, too.

And I like it even more every time i shoot it, and I don't know if it's the hogue grip or the design of the gun, but even when I shoot 357s out of it the recoil is extremely manageable.

This 15-2 has been in my family since new. It was purchased somewhere around '79-'81 is my best guess. It's a Monson, Mass production gun.

Torn between selling it (don't need a 6" .357) or getting a shorter barrel and an action job.

Who does trigger work on these?

are those DW .357's built on a .44 frame?
I have a s/s 4" GP100 that is about as stout-built as a .357 can be but I've always hankered for a 6" bbl .357. longer sight radius and legal to hunt with here in NC.
my GF has really taken a shine to the GP loaded with 'target' 158 cast slug 357 loads ( still as potent as +P .38's) however. she shoots it as well or better than the two .22 pistols I own (Ruger slab-side and Taurus 94. I'm thinking it's due to weight of it absorbing the recoil and the Williams fireset set I installed.

No, the Dan Wesson is built on what they call their small frame, which is built hell-for-stout and stronger than a S&W L-frame. The DW large frame is freaking huge, and comparable in size to the Ruger Super Redhawk. That frame is used for the 41, 44, 45 and the 445 Super Magnum.

DWs, as you've noticed in this thread, have interchangeable barrels, so you only need one frame and then you can get any barrel size from 2 to 15 inches!

Overall, the small frame Dan Wesson is approx. the same size as a Python. The large frame is approx. the same size as a Ruger Redhawk. The SuperMag is the large-frame with the frame window lengthened for a 2.072" cylinder.
There is a ".357" made on the large frame. It's called the M360 but it uses a 1.415" case instead of the Magnum's 1.28". They are rather rare. There is also a fixed barrel version of the small-frame. They can be identified by having a bevel on the front of the underlug instead of being flush with the muzzle.

Monson 15-2VH I picked up a couple years ago. Of all my firearms, this one feels best in my hand. Heck, I sit in my shop and just hold it for the sake of holding it. I think I'll pick up a 2.5 barrel assembly and another grip for CCW purposes, though.
