I have a .357 mag I bought used with no history. It has an 8" barrel. It is a Monsan 150xxx S/N so Im calling it a 15-2 from some earlier research.

I bought a 4" barrel assembly (not a porkchop shroud neither is my 8"). When I set my gap at .006" then slip on the shroud the barrel does not extend far enough into the shroud by about 3/8 of an inch, no threads showing.

Im thinking the assembly might be for a smaller frame if there is such a thing. Can anyone put some insight into this. Is there a "Small frame" .357.

There was a small frame .38 called the Lil Dan but they are rare so doubt that is where the barrel came from.

Attached is a picture of my DW 15-2 with 8 inch barrel installed and 4 inch heavy shroud with barrel I bought from EWK.

Barrel measures 3.898 inches and shroud measures 3.327.

Hope this helps. IMG_1096.JPG

Contact EWK, and explain the problem to him, He will surely make it right, and he makes those barrels and shrouds currently and sometimes they don't quite fit the original to spec. He doesn't make the barrel/shrouds for the Lil Dan as they were fixed barrel guns made only by the Palmer factory!

I've seen a couple of oddball factory shrouds and barrels that were apparently custom ones that won't fit a normal shroud or barrel, respectively. A friend of mine had a 3" VH barrel and shroud that was factory, as the box said "Custom 3" barrel on the box. Some guy saw it when we were shooting it and it found a new home and my friend's wallet got a couple of $100 bills more than a "normal" DW .357 went for back then. I saw a 5" one later on, at a gun show. The owner of that one wanted $1000 for a rough looking 15-2 and that one odd barrel and shroud. He didn't get many offers.

robhof, I am not the OP with problem. The 4 inch barrel and shroud from EWK works as advertised and I am happy with it.

The M15-2 has adjustable sights; the M14-2 has fixed sights. The frame is the same size; (so are the .22's and the .32's). As mentioned, the Lil' Dan is a smaller frame .38 but has a fixed barrel. If the barrel and shroud are a mismatch, EWK will make it right.

Tn Tom,

The barrel should be a good bit longer than the shroud (naturally) because it has to fit through the frame. A 4" barrel should measure an even 4", and the shroud measures a bit shorter as stated above. If the barrel is substantially shorter (Or shroud longer) I will guess that you bought a mismatched set, maybe a 4" shroud and possibly a barrel for a 3" or similar aftermarket set up.

(Is the 4" a real DW, with rollmarks denoting the .357 caliber consistent with the type on your Monson frame, or is the type different like on the EWK website? If it's different it's probably an aftermarket shroud.)

I have a Monson 15-2 "pistol pac" with the 2-4-6-8 VH set, and I bought a second frame and added a EWK 3" barrel and shroud in the factory-look VH style. It is a dead-ringer for a factory gun other than the rollmark type on the shroud. (I haven't seen EWK catalog the 3" VH in a while, they still have the "slab-side" one pictured above in a few barrel lengths in stock.)
