I have a 9mm Guardian with, I'm guessing between 1500 to 2000 rounds through it. It's functioned perfectly from day one until recently when the slide release came out partially while I was shooting it, locking the gun up. I was able to push it back in and keep shooting without it occurring again. I spoke with Dan Wesson's customer service this morning to ask whether it's an issue they've seen before. The rep I spoke hadn't heard of the issue, and it'll cost at least $150 to send it in for repair as it's out of warranty. It's possible that I didn't seat the slide stop completely the last time I cleaned it, but don't know if that's likely. I was wondering if it's an issue anyone has experienced or is familiar with.

I’d at least disassemble it and have a look to make sure nothing is broken. If not, I’d say either it didn’t get fully depressed at last disassembly or perhaps you’re a thumbs forward lefty and accidentally pushed it out.

Should something be amiss, easy enough for most people to fit a new one.

That's a rare malfunction. Try shooting it again after checking that you correctly seated it.

If the pin of the stop is protruding on the opposite side of the frame as designed, it's possible to disengage the slide stop if you are racking the slide with your trigger finger on the protruding pin. Another possibility is a failure of the plunger spring and/or slide stop detent. Again, these are rare conditions.

PS. I have a Guardian in Super 38 and have not experienced that over a 1000 rounds or so.

My DW had a similar issue early on. Slide would lock back with the slide only partially back. They shipped it back and replaced the slide stop. Solved.

If you know how to fit a slide stop I’d just get one from Ed Brown or somewhere similar.

EGW is a good place to buy 1911 parts. If you call them they will help you. Also they will make it right if their parts do not work out.

Thanks for the responses. I ordered a slide stop from Wilson Combat. I have a couple of their guns, the EDC X9 and X9S and have had good experiences with their products. It may be a drop in part, but if not there's a local gun smith I can bring it to.

Problem with my Guardian's slide stop was fixed at DW by removing some of the Duty Finish. The SS is an Ed Brown product. I like the groove to align the plunger.
