Beautiful. Quite a nice gift from him, I'd say.

I would imagine that your inbox is getting flooded with offers, but I'd keep it and never ever let it go.
I handload for mine and it's accurate as a laser, reliable as a hammer, and a really nice weapon altogether.

no plans on ever letting it leave the family.

Nice!

*drool* I hate you and I love your Grandfather, the old man had good taste.

My grandfather's got a Ruger vaquero in .44 mag (which they no longer make) and it's had the frame color case hardened. He refuses to sell it to me, :cuss:

Nice! Based on experience, check under the foam. You might find the manual, DW patch, DW belt buckle, And extra sights.

it had the original barrel wrench but no patch, buckle or manual. I'm planning on getting the combat style grip sometime in the near future(either hogue or LB custom). cleaned and lubed everything and it is immaculate as far as function goes. WOW that single action trigger pull i SWEEEEET!

yeah the trigger pull for single action is AMAZING!!! can't wait to take it to the range this week … ill report back with how it shots.
The short fall of the hammer gives these guns a very quick lock time. The innards are unlike any other action and as you have observed, the trigger break is very smart. Don't overlook the small allen screw at the back of the trigger to limit overtravel. But don't back it out too far or you will have a hard time undoing it.

Where was your gun made? The Monson, Mass. guns are generally preferred and your pistol pack looks very much like mine (except for the color of the case and the absence of the cloth covering the foam), so I am thinking it is from Monson, too.

The pistol pack usually came with a belt buckle and a cloth shoulder patch. Any chance they are under the foam?

I don't remember any rubber "O" rings. Do you know what they are for? Are they perhaps from another purpose and not DW at all?

yep it says monson mass and serial number is 1700XX. so my best guess based on what i can find is that its a 77 or 78. trigger feels perfect so I'm not gonna mess with the overtravel screw. I'm gonna put some fabric in the case soon. as it was when i found it the foam was sticking to some of the barrels… but no damage to note. lucky me

OOPs mine is a "Mini Pak" and has the purple foam. Yours is the Pistol Pack with the 8" barrel and had the yellow lining.

I saw the Dan Wesson thread, and couldn't resist sharing mine... Here's the kicker: My lgs owner offered me $150 for this gun, saying "no one has any spares for this, so, hey, I'll take it off your hands." I politely declined. I have no intention of ever selling this gun.

THR's rules do not allow me to use the proper terms for describing your lgs owner, unless he was clearly joking with you.

I paid $150 for my Dan Wesson. In 1975 and it had only one (interchangeable) barrel.

Very interesting that the DW Topic has the second highest number of replies on a brand specific topic on the Revolvers Forum right now.

The DW People know that they have something special, very good and under appreciated revolvers.

yep the Dan's are under appreciated.

I've got the pistol pack in 22 with a second cylinder and crane for .22mag.
Then I've got a 357 and 44mag with several barrels for each.

and the dan wesson forum previously mentioned is a good place too. Lot's of good info.

If you ever deside to pull the trigger parts out , you just for the heck of it get a wolf lighter hammer spring and drop it in. It makes that trigger even better. How about a 2 1/2lb SA pull and still allways goes bang.

Sure wish I could fined a 22 DW now. I have to monson mass 357s and one monson 44 mag.

cool!! i might just have to try that. just ordered some hogue zebra wood grips to replace the missing combat style grips.

just got some hogue zebra wood combat grips to replace the missing ones from the set. Its sooo much easier to grip the gun now!

ill post pics soon

Now go shoot some small groups!! Hey do you hunt?? With just a replacement barrel shroud from EWKarms you could mount a red dot/reflex or scope and have fun at longer distance or go hunting. heres my 44 with a burris dot and a my 1976 15-2 wearing a 4" barrel. That 357 with a 8" barrel and old dot has killed a pile of hogs too.- th_102_0451.gif

Mighty fine looking hogleg and I am sure it is a great shooter. Do not be afraid to shoot distance with it as mine is a great deer getter. xtp bullets is good choice. My 10" barrel and 125 gr. hp's and dead yotes to 100 yds. Say any of you guys know good places to buy barrels and shrouds? Have fun and bangaway.

In addition to auction sites:

Dan Wesson in Norwich, NY still manufactures and sells barrel assemblies, and EWK Technologies is producing some great new items for DW revolvers. Contact info for both can be found at

I have a pistol pack and no idea what it is worth. I check alot of sites & auctions but find nothing like this. I made this purchase in 1995 or so from Don's guns in Indianapolis. I believe the barrels are 8" as they mesure 7.5 inches. the cas eis similar to the one here. I dont know how to include pic. it is SS 357 with the extra barrel having a burris scope on it. it has never been fired. it has just the 2 barrels. how do I load a pic

I have seen two of those pistol packs go for over a $1000.00 in the last year. That's just in case you want to have any further dealin's with that LGS coyote again.
