Ok, so I am a die hard conservative, but one of my guilty pleasures is watching the daily show. I have to admit, I think it's really funny. It is, however, a very left wing show.

So Jon Stewart was interviewing Daniel Craigm and the funniest thing happened. They started BSing about how much fun it was to shoot AK47s at the range, and making fun of coworkers for shooting the "hostage" target.

My jaw dropped. Of all people, I did not expect to hear Jon Stewart speaking fondly of his experience shooting AK47s.
 
When Jonnie starts advocating AKs for non-Hollywood types, I'll pay attention to his rhetoric on that.

ps. I think he's funny, too, just not a friend of the RKBA.

I didn't mistake his comments for pro-2a, it just caught me off guard that he was happily remembering his time at the range with an AK.
 
Jon Stewart strikes me as possibly the most smug person alive. I hardly ever watch him because I can't stand his smug, cocky face, but I think he exudes a mentality of elitism and arrogance. I wouldn't be surprised if he not only has a carry permit but has a whole rack of ARs and AKs in his house - and thinks that he is the only person in the country who should be so entitled.
 
I'm not really shocked. There are pictures of some of the biggest antis having fun at the range, and with toys we can't have. It has nothing to do with them not liking guns. It has everything to do with them feeling like they're better than us, so they should have power and privilege we shouldn't.

Wasn't he the one that after the election did a skit about them stepping outside into the light?
I seriously doubt he'll even mention anything bad about the new administration. After all it's HIS president now.
But back to the gun angle. I think most of us agree. all for me none for thee when it comes to ANY of the rights referenced in the BOR.
 
They're just better and smarter than us.
They were graciously imparting their experience to us commoners so that we can live vicariously through them for yet another day.

daniel craig has repeatedly stated that he is afraid of guns, thinks there is no good that can come from them, and would never touch one in his everyday life. ironic, given that nearly every movie he has been in features him prominently using guns. i hate hollywood.

It might also be good to keep in mind that he's an entertainer - he's paid to be funny. I would not assume that you can derive his politics from the on screen persona he's creating.

I saw the show where he mocked Hillary Clinton, and his studio audience was upset.

I think that the previous administration had a peculiar mixture of verbal incoherence and self-righteousness that made them a very easy target for a satirist.

If you watched the shows with John McCain, Lynn Cheney, or Mike Huckabee, I think that you would find that he can be respectful of people with whom he does not agree.

I don't know what he will do with the incoming administration. I will be interested to see how it works out - Obama is a coherent, nuanced speaker. I don't see him providing comics with a constant stream of miss-steps. I think he's going to be a real challenge for comics (regardless of what you think of his politics).

I don't know what his politics are, and I think it's hard to do definitively. I think that a McCain victory would have been very difficult for him - as an entertainer.

The Daily Show and The Colbert Report go hand in hand with the Dems / Reps. The DS gets to be hard on the Republicans. The CR gets to be hard on the Democrats. It's Colbert's responsibility to be as hard on Obama as Stewart was on Bush.

The Colbert Report is a parody of The O'Reilly Factor, so he will be parodying whatever O'Reilly do.
 
If Jon can't figure out to satirize the incoming administration, then he'll be off the air. Comedy Channel is not really going to keep market share with a show that fawns over the current administration - it's not Fox News. :)

I in fact don't think that the Daily Show will survive the transition to a new administration. I think that Obama will prove very difficult to satirize. I expect Jon to get some airtime by playing before/after video clips of Secretary Clinton and Joe Biden, but I then I expect him to fade. I think that he and the Bush administration were a nearly perfect match.

He's been doing it for ten years and is very good at it. I do not think that Jon Stewart is especially enamored with mainstream Democrats either.

Poker88: The Colbert Report is a satire. It is a very well done, very thoroughly executed spoof. Steven Colbert leans exactly the same way Jon Stewart (and I!) do.

He is a deeply disturbed little man. His personality is funny to watch, as it evinces itself in tics and mannerisms which appear comically timed. They aren't. He really IS like that.
 
Boy some of you guys can't even pay close enough attention to the T.V. let alone books or newspapers.

It was John Oliver, the British guy, who shot the hostage target, and the impression was that it was very much on accident, and also very embarrassing.

John Stewart will savage the Obama presidency, and he will lay waste to the Dems, and it will all be very entertaining. Anyone who hasn't noticed when he's done it in the past simply isn't paying attention.
 
Colbert is in a unique position because he sometimes peppers his satire with genuine criticism of Democrats, effectively making fun of both sides at once. The writing on his show is really excellent, it's usually funnier than the Daily Show.

Agreed. He has said before on the show that he would have voted for McCain over Al Gore in 2000. Im not really sure where these "socialist" & "elitist" comments are coming from.

Its his job to mock the government. The Daily Show used to make fun of Clinton all the time, give them a chance, they will make fun of the Obama administration just as much.

Sure until McCain sold out to the Christian Far Right. Colbert is funnier but don't plan on him being hard on Obama.

This sounds a lot like a political thread. I know it isn't because we don't do that here.
