I ordered my first SBR a month or so ago and am looking forward to trying it out in a few weeks. I've shot a bunch of short barreled full-auto suppressed M4 rifles chambered for the 300 Blackout and found the 10" variants to be incredibly reliable in full auto mode so I don't expect any issues from this model. I have a Dead Air Armament SANDMAN-S for it and will use either a Vortex Spitfire 1X or an Aimpoint M4s. My intention is to use it as a home defense firearm so will be mounting some form of light or laser. I think this will be a nice, compact and practical package.

I found my DD 10.3" barrel upper to be very ammo picky. I gave up on it trying to run 240 grain subsonic leatherheads. Might have been the gas port was too small. I don't know . Finally sold the thing off because I found my el cheapo 7.5" and 8.5" uppers would run EVERYTHING at the same accuracy. Im not excited about SBR Daniel Defense stuff.

This is a new product so if your experience with DD was typical I would hope that they've corrected the issue. I have a number of accessories from DD and have been impressed by the quality so I'm not worried. I have a ton of supersonic and subsonic factory ammunition to test along with 1000+ primed Remington cases so it's all good. I'll report back on function and accuracy asap.

Nice, you'll have to post a picture of the setup with the Sandman, optics, etc. on it.

And definitely let us know about the reliability with the different types of ammo.

Ryanxia, thanks. DD informed me that I can expect the SBR to show up in early July so it's a waiting game at present. I have a lot of other things to take care of so no big deal. I'll be back with a report and pictures in a month or two. I could have bought a 300 BLK upper but since I don't have a lower to put it on I figured that a turnkey SBR was the better option for me. This will be my fifth and most likely last AR since I have a couple of POFs including 7.62 and 5.56 models, a Bushmaster .450 BM, and a DPMS/BM 5.56 "varmint" rifle. More than enough variety for me.

I sold off my 10.3" DD upper. It wouldnt do what my 7 and 8 inch el cheapo uppers would so I didnt have much patience with it. Hope you have better luck with yours. Never could get mine to run on 240 grain leatherhead subsonics and I shoot a lot of those.

OK, so what kind of 7 & 8 inch el-cheapos do you have?

I'm just getting into the .300 and went with an 11.3" Wilson Combat barrel.

The 7 inch is an Anderson barrel on a BCA side charging upper with a generic BCG.

The 8.5 inch is a PSA $45 on sale barrel with a generic upper and BCG.

Both run like champions.

Dang,

I like that side charging upper. I wish I would have known before I bought my 300's. I hate the rear charging handle. My .300's suppressed work for about 150 rounds then they choke and die until cleaned fwiw. Not really impressed with them. I also use leather heads but in the 220 grain variety.

You might want to look at how you load your leatherheads. ANY crimp on them leades to lead shaving and clogging of the gas rings. Pick up a lee factory crimp die and tune it so you just set the brass back to neck size and no more.

I never could get the correct amount of crimp for the leatherheads. Either the bullets setback severely when chambered, or I ran into the leading issues you described.

I've thought about going in and widening the feed ramps in the barrel extension... it's only a $100 SOTA Arms barrel anyways. I'm held back by the fact that the thing runs supers and subs with and without a can, but doesn't need adjustable gas block to do it.
