I'm wondering if anyone has any links to reputable data on the amount of money that is put towards conservation and state wildlife agencies, especially compared to strict private donations/"conservation" groups input?

I know money isn't really the best way to study who is more helpful, but it is the easiest way to track and compare, and I've gotten myself into a little melee defending hunting. I know hunters and other sportsmen put more into it than any other group, and have a more positive effect on wildlife than so-called environmental groups, but I'd like to put some hard numbers up there.

Thanks, any information that could help out would be appreciated!

A while back I wrote an article about the North American Wild Turkey Federation. They have quite a few resources at their website about the work they do, and that might be a place to start researching. The work that they've done in restoring Florida's wild turkey population is deeply impressive, and they work closely with various state wildlife agencies.

Rather than explore this question across the board, I think you'll find the kind of data you're looking for in this kind of "case study" example because the amount of data will be easier to quantify.

Also check with the DOW offices in the various states. Colorado had a handout that was very informative on this subject.
