I had another post on here about my Ruger GP100 hitting high even with the sight cranked all the way down. The sight I had in there was a High Viz fiber optic. It is the exact height as the Ruger factory sight.

People on here were very helpful and told me my sight was too short and I needed a taller one. They pointed me to Dawson Precision since they had a sight calculator and would make me what I needed.

I ordered one and got it today. The package says it fits GP100 and Redhawk. It won’t fit. The base that slides into the groove looks to be a bit wider than the Hi Viz that is already in there. I’m gonna bring it by my dealer tomorrow. He does gunsmithing and maybe it needs to be filed a hair. But I can’t get that base to fit into the channel on the barrel.

Am I doing something wrong?

I recently added Dawson FO to two of my semi-autos. Dawson's site and paperwork told me up front that the sights would be slightly over sized and to carefully fit them to the gun by filing the new sight. I do as instructed and had no problems.

"Am I doing anything wrong" -- probably not. Not much is really "drop in" ready. Contact Dawson! They might give you a easy fix.

I don't have a GP100, but have fitted sights to a number of other guns. I have rarely had a new sight that did not need fitting. I have used Dawson, Novak, Heinie, OE factory sights, etc. All needed fitting.....

It may not be made to spec. You could take a pic and send it to Dawson. Post it here too.

For those who don't know, the GP100 has a spring loaded plunger that is actuated from a recess in the front of the barrel. The sight is pulled into the "Dove tail" by a hook on the plunger snagging a notch on the sight.
