Anyone can file, but unless you're representing a large group, the amicus won't mean much.

Several states have already filed. They include Hawaii, California, and Maryland. They are probably siding with The District. Those of you in the afore-mentioned states should write a letter in protest to your respective attorney generals and governors.

Texas filed an amicus brief that was joined by 14 other states at the lower court level. I think it is absolutely vital that we encourage our state attorney generals to join with the pro-Second brief that I expect some states to submit.
The antis will be trying to portray the individual rights view as extremist. Having more states signed on to the individual rights view briefs goes a long ways to show that the individual rights view is supported by mainstream America. Besides, easy political money for your state AG... all he has to do is sign his name onto someone else's brief for easy political hay.

Haha, I just got done writing a letter to Greg Abbot. Well maybe I'll send it anyway and let his office send back a letter telling me how happy they were to oblige.

Our Attorney General is too busy running for Governor. his office sucessfully defended the overide of the CCW bill in 2003n that our Democrat Governor had Vetoed, however, His personal views are Anti-gun, Don't think he would be much help. Just my .02
You never know. He may be personally anti but realize it is politically expedient to appear otherwise. Or he might be intellectually honest enough to be willing to file a brief in support of some individual 2A right even though his personal feelings are different.

I also made a point of writing the Texas ACLU regarding DC vs. Heller and asking them to file an amicus brief on Mr. Heller's behalf. As you know, the Texas ACLU did submit a report (along with TSRA) supporting the rights of Texans to transport firearms in their motor vehicle. If we could get an amicus brief from the state chapter of the ACLU of the second most populous state in the nation, I believe it would be a big help!!! Please, all you Texans make sure and write our state ACLU chapter (in addition to the attorney general and governor)!!!
