Deadwood S.D. buys Wild Bills guns

Somehow I got onto Youtube and they had a video showing the mayor of Deadwood opening a display in their museum of two of Wild Bills pistols a holster and cartridge belt. They bought the stuff at an auction in California and payed $200,000. Neither one of the guns were C&B navy colts. Both guns were cartridge guns one looked like a breakdown revolver like a schoelfield. The other was a colt but an early cartridge gun.

Wild Bill had LOTS off different guns through the ages.

He is most known for his Navies, but, also carried Army's while serving. He had a 32 S&W as well as other colts.

Are they correct? Maybe... records of sales back then were not like they are today.

Bill was also known for taking firearms off of dead people after a fight when he was a lawman. (I recall someone saying this is how he came by his S&W... but there is know way of knowing for sure)

The youtube video didn't mention what kind of documentation they had to justify the $200,000.

Folks in town must have a lot more money than when I used to hang out there. Back then there were a couple of pistols ascribed to his ownership, plus several 'dead man's hands' of cards.........

All accounts have Hickcock carrying a brace of engraved .36 caliber C&B Navy Colts presented to him. He's reputed to have practiced with them daily - shooting, cleaning and reloading, and carrying them thrust into the red waist sash he favored. >MW
