Deaf child named Hunter asked to change name

That was in Grand Island Nebraska of all places. The home of Hornady Manufacturing. I bet Joyce is rolling over in his grave about now.

This stuff is way beyond acceptable. There has to be a point at which people stop trying to deny the existence of dangerous things, and learn to cope with reality. I'm actually angry. I almost never experience anger.

/sigh

I am in school for my associates and have/had several classmates that are deaf, their ages have ranged from 20's to 50's...they are great and inspire me to push myself and do as much as I can as hard as I can. It really upsets me to see this being done to a child.

That really chaps my hide. :cuss:

I would file a discrimination lawsuit. I think there would be a good chance of winning....Might win a free education for the kid.

What about hearing kids and their names? Shouldn't kids named "Amy" have to change their name too because it implies they're "aiming" at something? And what about kids named "Archer". That one's obvious. So is "Archie".

I'd guess this could be a very long list. I'm not spending the night just giving ideas to the gun haters though.

Interestingly enough, I worked for the superintendent at GI schools when he was the supe in Salina, KS. He is an avid outdoors man who loves to hunt ducks and pheasants.

Both of my kids were born in GI as well. This is really a sad story and confirms why I got out of being a public school administrator.

I grew up with hearing impared, in both religious and educational settings...watched them develop from a mostly segregated demographic to a group welding significant political strength. To express in the vernacular these school idiots may understand, they are "playing with a loaded gun" by messing with this child.

All this 'zero-tolerance' nonsense is actually about indoctrination; creating the perception in young, impressionable minds that certain things (in this case, guns) are bad, and to be avoided. These clowns can loose every case, but if they can convince the kids that guns are EVIL, they win in the long run.

Johnny, I most passionately hope and pray you're right...I just saw a FB link from guns.com:
http://www.guns.com/2013/06/08/toy-gun-buyback-program-hits-the-streets/

'Apparently Strobridge Elementary School in Hayward, CA will host a toy gun buyback this Saturday. Kids who turn in their plastic pistols, Nerf shooters and rubberband rifles will be entered to win a bicycle. So, actually it’s more like a raffle, but who’s splitting hairs?

Charles Hill, the school’s principal, explained, “Playing with toys guns, saying ‘I’m going to shoot you,’ desensitizes them, so as they get older, it’s easier for them to use a real gun.” '--excerpt
