A local shop I visited this weekend has a used Uberti Walker Colt with a Kirst Cartridge Konverter priced at $400. First of all, I've always sort of wanted one of these. I also currently have a Ruger old army. The Uberti, while it looked like it hadn't been fired much, had lots of handling marks including a few scratches and scuff marks on the lower frame and near the frame wedge. Also, a number of the screws were buggered up from not using a proper screwdriver bit. I know these guns can be had new for $400, but given this one has the Kirst Konverter, I wondered if it might a a good deal. Anyone have a Kirst on their walker? I reload so I was thinking it would be easy to craft some soft shooting cowboy loads using either real black powder or trail boss. Givent that it was at a pawn shop, I think it could be had for $350 out the door. What do you guys think about this deal?

You didn't exactly say if it had the percussion cylinder. I would definitely want it included or would plan to acquire one which would increase the investment. From the description and where its at I wouldn't be to surprised if the bore was pitted and rusty and never been cleaned since the last outing. Could be a deal, but might just be junk.

Umm, no, not such a good deal, even at $350. The point about having both cylinders is a good one.

First,, condition is everything. Assuming a dirty bore (maybe 70% condition, even some slight rust pitting is acceptable), $125 max without the percussion cylinder, $150-175 with it.

Assuming good condition (90%, no pits, including the described damage), $250 without the percussion cylinder, $300-325 with it.

It's a pawn shop. The markup is at least 100%. The shop does deserve some profit, so I gave him $50.

Sorry for not being more clear. It does come with the original cylinder and box. There is no rust evident but I didn't look in the bore or break it down. So, it Still sounds high based on what you've said. Maybe I can get them to go lower. Thanks.

Having put this combo together new, $400.00 sounds good if the pistol is in good condition. A new set of screws is not expensive. I bought the display Walker at the Lehi, Utah Cabelas last June for $359.00 and the Kirst conversion cylinder was right at $200.00 WITHOUT the gate ring which I am switching back and forth with my converted Dragoon. The fact is, the Walker is so imposing a weapon that the used examples command decent resale prices. The Kirst cylinders are not available discounted, unless you are lucky enough to run across one used it will cost dearly.:D
