Anybody decap and then swage .223/5.56 on the Lee APP?
I am venturing into reloading .223/5.56. I have the Lee APP Swage Kit.
I need advice/best practices on decaping. A few videos on YT and a few threads here on THR and others sites allude to having to use a decaping die with a flare to open the case mouths that are dented so the Lee APP Swage guide rod will fit. Johnny’s Reloading Bench on YT actually shows a kit with the decaping die with a 22/32 cal decap and flare punch AND a the swage die.
I looked on Lee’s website, there is a 22 & 30 caliber decap and flare replacement punch for the Swage Decapping die. Search results for a Swage Decapping Die lead back to the decap flare punch. I called customer service, but it was weird, he told me to use a Phillips screwdriver…?
Could I install the 22/30 cal decap and flare punch into the Universal Decap Die to decap and remove the dents in the case mouth so the guide pin in the swage kit will fit?
What am I missing?
