I wonder if military brass can be decapped and reused because I have tried these have 2 very small holes and badly stuck,, btw I want to use 30-06 ammo, any help in this regard.

If it's boxer primed, then the answer is "yes". But the answer is "no" with a berdan primer (at least for practical purposes). The boxer primer uses one central flash hole, while the berdan primer uses two smaller flash holes offset from the center of the primer pocket.

To deprime military, crimped, boxer-style cases, I use the Lee Universal Depriming and Decapping Die. I works much better for me than the RCBS equivalent.

I dont know the diff between boxer and berdan primed, all i can see inside 2 holes offset from the centre

Here is an example of Berdan primed brass. If you have this stuff, scrap it or throw it away.

I wouldn't be so quick to throw it away. Seeing as you are in Asia you may (although I doubt it), have better access to Berdan primers. Good luck!

Berdan primed brass requires a special tool for removing the primer and requires Berdan primers. I've never been enough of a masochist to try reloading them though if you're desperate, it's doable.

Dear Spamhandler, thats interesting statement, btw what made you doubt my location, it might be fun talking about it.

Friends I have a bulk of this Berdan primed shells and NO OTHER OPTION, my problem is decapping them , once I did it, I might be able to do something with it.

Perhaps the easiest way to de-prime it without special berdan reloading tools is by using water pressure.

Homemade Tools:
You need a flat steel base with a hole in it big enough to clear the old primer to set the case on.
You need a metal rod or punch sized to be a tight slip fit in the case mouth.

Process:
Fill the case nearly full with water.
Set it on the base plate.
Insert the rod in the case mouth.
Hit the rod with a hammer.

Hydraulic pressure will pop the old Berdan primer out.

RCBS still makes a tool to do it I believe. A google search for Berdan decapping tool
should turn up some. Likely you can make a tool as well. Of course you need the berdan primers . Best

Interesting idea RC. I would never have thought of that. The only way I could imagine depriming them was some type of pierce and pull maneuver.

You misread my post. I don't doubt your location, just the availability of Berdan primers in your part of the world.

Here's a useful page for your use. http://www.ehow.com/list_6658411_tools-reload-berdan-primed-brass.html

I've used the hydraulic method, which is very messy, by using a bolt which was turned down in size using a drill press and file. A lathe would have been preferrable, but none was available. If Berdan primers were available more often in the U.S. I would be loading them as you have chosen to do. Good Luck!

thanks SpamH ur lead took me to read a cople of articles on Decapping, as always I found RCmodel to be most practical, i would soon be posting pics of my Realoading machine all locally made in very queer workplaces, just waiting o recieve my dies from the US, as they dont ship these type of stuff here, lest it may fall in wrong hands.

You Can Do It!!!
What I have done was took a punch ground so the shaft of the punch fit snugly in the case mouth this will line up the punch in the center of the primer, now I used an old shell holder in a vice put the punch in till it makes contact and wack it with a hammer about 8 of ten work out now this was steel cases 7.62x39 .308 and 30-06 it is a royal pain in the
neck may work better with brass.

jeeptim are you talking about Berdan primed shells, and you were able to decap 8 out of 10 ?

Berdan Primed Brass

Don't throw the berdan primed brass away. Modern primers will work the brass.
Several years ago I experimented with some berdan primed fired cases.
I put a case in a machinest vice on my drill press with the case head up. The vise has a notch that aliens the case perfectly vertical. I found that an 1/8" drill running slow (rpm wise) centered on the spent primer would just go through the primer bind and pull the primer out. It takes a little practice but I do it all the time now. Even some blazer aluminun cases can be refired once in pistol cases 45 acp that is.

I hope it is safe to use after re loading what about any damage expected from loose primers.

So are you saying that boxer primers will work with berdan flash holes? Thats seems asking for a squib.
