I'm confusing myself by thinking too much ... I think. The goal is to create a budget "scout" rifle out of a WW2-era Mauser. I'm not looking to replace the stock and sporterize it, just remove the rear sight and mount a handgun scope on a rail attachment that's made to fit the factory sight mount.

With that in mind, I don't know whether to use a K98, an M48, or an M24/47 as the basis for this little toy. Would any of the above be significantly better or worse than the others for such a project?
