I'd been contemplating dumping my "Russians" just because I never shoot them, I don't reload any of those calibers, and I grew tired of their demands on space in my safe and ammo boxes. So, today made the leap and sold a Saiga 7.62X39, Russian SKS, Mosin-Nagant M44, and a CZ 82 along with their assorted ammo I had stashed...so I now don't have 7.62X39, 7.62X54R, or 9X18 Mak firearms or ammo. Whew! Made about 30% on them over what I paid 7-10 years ago at purchase; not fabulous, but better than a bank.

It's not that I'm mad at Putin, I just wasn't getting any joy from them...I should have from the Saiga, but I don't get any kicks from just plinking away with a not-very-accurate-semiauto.

Hence, I'm mostly back to American steel and "normal" calibers with a few minor exceptions. Think I'll miss any of the above? Maybe the Saiga? Maybe the SKS since it was Russian made and those are a little more rare? Maybe I'll just add another AR:D But probably not in 7.62X39

Anyone else in a caliber-decreasing mood?

I did this awhile ago, my semi auto pistols are 9mm, my revolvers are either .357 (fired almost exclusively with .38+p) or .45 LC other than one .22LR & a lone .475 Linebaugh. Centerfire rifles are 5.56 or .357 Mag, 12 ga only for the couple shotguns I have. Rimfire rifles are all 10/22's in .22 LR (got several as I have a weakness for these fun little boogers). It certainly simplifies the ammo & magazine situation by limiting the variety and I enjoy what I have enormously.

Obviously you are being guided toward the truest and best pistol, a Makarov PM. You just sold your 9x18mm stash because you were momentarily confused by the blinding light of truth. But don't worry, it won't be too expensive to correct that temporary error.

No, never have done a gun or caliber reduction. In reality I'm just the opposite; I still have ammo around for guns I sold off or traded away many years ago. It doesn't take up much space in the overall scheme of things and maybe some day I will find a gun that I want that goes with the leftover ammo.

I did mine for two reasons, I had a known entry of 2 new individuals into my household who are/were incapable of wiping their own bottoms, eating their spinach, and maintaining proper firearm handling practices (working on the eldest with a Despicable Me "Fart Gun" and it's going well).

Second reason, said entry of offspring meant I had nearly zero time to take my range buddies out for walks. So I figured it was time to liquidate while prices were up and my profit margin was large.

Dropped everything but my deer rifle, 2 12ga (835 for turkey and 500 for HD and slug barrel for deer), my 2 1911s in .45 and the one .38spl revolver that I just cannot sell. Overall a good job of slimming things down to the minimums.

...then 2016 reared it's ugly head, and now I have added .223/5.56 back into the mix.

Not me. I just added 7.62x25, .40 Super, 6.5 Grendel, .30 Remington, and .500 Nitro Express die sets to the stack.

The Brown Truck of Joy should be bringing my newest acquisition soon; a BSA Featherweight in .30-06. I was *sure* I had some '06 dies around here somewhere...
