Well guys I got into a recent debate with an old friend who has recently discovered revolvers and he has always been a semi guy:rolleyes:. So we were talking and he said " what do you shoot for practiceJulie ain't pregers with your revolvers" side note the caliber we are discussing is 357 magnum. "38 wadcutters I said I told him I liked the clean holes they leave." He said "huh never shot any." So we went and shot some as always perfect holes in the target :D. Anyways my buddy then asked me "so if you could pick any revolver to shoot just target load wadcutters through what would it be?" So I ask you if you could pick any revolver for this purpose alone what would it be ?

For me it is a 4 inch colt cobra that has a single action pull like butter baby it is awesome

I have several -
  • Colt Officer's Model Match
  • Smith & Wesson Model 14-3
  • Colt Python (1978)
  • Smith & Wesson Model .357 (6.5" barrel) (1953)
All are supremely accurate.

I do shoot wad-cutter bullets in my .357 Magnums. I use Trail Boss Powder, and .357 Magnum cases, since I'm lazy, and don't like the carbon build-up in the Magnum cylinders.

Now, if you want real accuracy, get a S&W Model 52. It's purpose-designed to shoot .38 wad-cutters. It and the Colt Model 1911, modified for the same cartridge are pleasures to shoot.

S&W Model-14 Masterpiece.

They won enough trophy's when revolvers still ruled NRA Bullseye to fill Donald Trumps big swimming pool six times over.

IMO: No .357 chambered revolver will quite match a dedicated .38 Special chambered Model 14 target revolver.

Unless it is an old Colt Officers Model Match .38 Special.

I would purchase a used PPC Revolver built on a Smith K-Frame with bull barrel, Aristocrat Sight Rib and super smooth action job.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

One more for the S&W 14. I have a 6" and an 8 3/8". Both are amazingly accurate with wadcutters, which is what they were built for. They have target triggers, target sights & overtravel stop and IMO the 14 was considered a company flagship and got a bit more hand fitting and internal polishing than a 10 on a police contract.

1) S&W Model 14 with a 6" barrel.
2) Colt Python .38 Special with an 8" barrel.
3) Colt Officer's Model Match with a 6" barrel.

Pictures?
Well how about a matched pair. Model 17 and 14. Same size, same weight, same feel.
Top one is a .22LR and the bottom is a .38 Spec.

I've got 3 pairs of them for the grand kids.

K-38. That's a Model 14 for those of you in the Digital Age.

As said, you can often pick up a PPC gun from somebody who has dropped out.
A friend slap dab wore out a Fred Schmidt. Too bad Mr S. is since deceased.

But really, any name brand .38 will amaze the Glock Generation.

Unlimited? No holds barred? Probably a Manurhin MR73 target. Honorable mentions to the Python and Model 14. Actually, you can do some fantastic work with a Model 14 mated to a Python barrel.

One of the most fun guns I ever shot was a Model 10 that had been thoroughly customized for PPC shooting. 6" long heavy barrel, giant Bomar rib, and a trigger so slick that three of the first six shots I took with it were true surprise breaks. I am the SECOND person in line to buy it if the owner ever decides to sell.
