I have read several recipes over the years but can't find them now that I need one. Any ideas?

Yeah, in Montana, you must be surrounded by feed and farm supply places. Mind you, hunting over a salt lick may be illegal. It's the same as baiting.

a cattle block from the feed store?

That's what I do. The deer here really like that red mineral block.

So don't hunt over it. Just see what comes to it and see which way they come from and which way they leave. Check your state regs for the distance you have to be from the salt to legally hunt there. Problem sovled.

In addition to the ethical/legal questions. Here's something else to consider. Here in Illinois the DNR has ban salt blocks/licks/feeders as they have been linked as a possible means of spreading CWD in cervids.

CWD is a serious problem, but from what I've read so far no one really has a handle on the disease vector.
Everyone assumes it is from some form of contact and therefore folks are trying to minimize artificial contact situations, limiting game farms, etc. it seems to be spreading no matter what... Very bad news for us venison eaters.

Scout- Is there something new out there I've not heard about?
