Hello,

New member here. Thanks for having me.

I'm a novice when it comes to firearms. I have some experience, but nowhere close to the level I'd like to be at.

I want to start a collection of weapons for defense. I'm interested in weapons that can share ammo example: Lever action rifles and revolvers that use .357 Magnum rounds. I'm also interested in weapons that use the most common rounds .22lr, .357 Magnum, 9mm par, .45 ACP. And I'm interested in semi-automatic magazines that can be used in pistols and rifles/carbines.

I have some questions if you all don't mind.

1. Do any of you know of weapons that match these criteria?

2. Some .357 Magnum revolvers can fire .357 Magnum rounds and .38 Special rounds. With moon clips can this revolver fire rimless rounds? And if so what kinds? Are there revolvers that CAN fire rimless rounds with the use of moon clips? My hope is to find a weapon that uses two revolver calibers and one or more rimless rounds.

Here are the weapons I'm interested in purchasing.
Ruger 10/22
Sig Trailside Target Pistol or Browning Buckmark Pistol

Marlin Model 1894C chambered for .357 Magnum
Smith & Wesson 686
I'm also looking into the Coonan .357 Magnum Semi-Automatic Pistol Standard Model.

Any thoughts on these weapons?

Thanks

I forgot to ask if anyone has experience with combo guns. Rifle barrel over shotgun barrel. I don't know if they are semi-auto or how many rounds they hold. I'd love to get one in .22lr/12 gauge.

Welcome aboard, but a SHTF thread is probably the absolute worst to start with. Not flaming, just saying before the lock.

Oh and Kel-Tec Sub2K and matching pistol. Interchangeable ammo and magazines. That is all.

Nice to meet You..

Hang around here for a bit and you will absorb more sage advice than You ever thought possible. Welcome. Essex

tmajors, this isn's a SHTF thread. What he is looking for is the classic carbine/pistol combo.

Most revolver cartridges are available in lever actions. .357, 44 mag, and 45Colt Lever action rifles and revolvers are both easy to find.

The over/under combo gun you are looking for isn't as common. For a while Springfield Armory was selling a survival rifle with a skeletal steel stock like this. Also, there are a bunch of russian break-open type guns being imported. I haven't looked into them, but it seems like they'll make just about any combo of reasonably popular calibers. They are sold under the Baikal name. AFAIK, all combo guns like this are single shots.

1st off, welcome to THR EN
All .357's can fire .38 spls as far as I'm aware.
Moon clips are not necessary for rimmed cartridges like the .357/.38, but rather for .45 acp and 9mm rounds. S&W 625 in .45acp uses moon clips. There are a couple of other mfgs who have made 9mms and .45acps which also require use of clips... or use .45 AutoRim in lieu of the acp round held in w/ clip. Note that you can also fire these revolvers without using the clip, but extraction becomes a fun chore.

Your choice or combination of choices are wise (don't know about the Coonan tho).
As ElT says, buy one or two, seek out training, that is, seek out good and qualified training, and continue on with your journey.
.22's are fun and cheap, promote good initial skills, low recoil big smiles.
For combo guns look up Savage/Stevens. Single shots. One smooth bore, one rifled. Sizes vary. Aesthetics are somewhat iffy (it is what it is).
Do spend some time using the search button. You can read for weeks on end. Some of the people here actually know a thing or three and have BTDT.

Sorry Owen you came in late. The thread's original title was "SHTF guns". It was changed immediately after my post.
