I just recieved my approval letter from superior court, not surprising. i spoke with someone concerning the pistol safety/information course i must take last night. he told me of the applications he submits only 10% are accepted and those have to speak with a judge and are required the full 90 days for back ground check etc. and he has NEVER heard of anyone getting approval based on submitting their own paperwork.
so i was approved in under 30 days, none of my references were contacted, i didn't have to sit before a judge, in fact no one even called me.

so now i am wondering am i lucky or is this fellow just that bad at articulating the "reason you are applying for a concealed weapon permit (be specific)" section. anybody else have a DE CCW and what were your experiences? i am wondering if his state approval rating is that low maybe i should find someone else to do my course work

Sounds sorta fishy . . . It's surprising that DE would be all that stringent, they accept my FL CCW and Fl is "shall issue", even for non-residents. Does he charge an additional fee to "help get approval"?

yeah he does charge extra for "help to get approved" seems like all the guys who offer the required course also offer help getting approved. makes me wonder what sort of person couldn't get approved on their own merit considering i did EASILY.
btw you can only use a FL license to carry in DE if you are not a DE resident. DE residents must pass have a DE license, but if you have a DE license you can apply in FL and then be able to carry in PA, seems a very convoluted way to PA licensure

If you have a DE license, you can apply directly to PA to get a license too, IIRC. PA does grant permits to non-residents, if I am not mistaken.

de ccw

things have changed over the years, in De. when I went for my CCW in Sussex, several years ago, I had to appear before a Superior Court Justice and explain why I wanted a permit. "Self Defense" was not considered adequate cause on its own merit. The judge told two of us he saw no reason to deny a permit, but as I recall it didn't go that way for the third person that appeared.

I was glad to get my permit, but it seemed a bit fishy and pretty arbitrary.

Several years later, my wife applied for and received her CCW with no appearance required. several other friends have had equal success, with no appearance. it does take a while, though.

I don't think you need to pay extra to have someone submit for you. I'd kind of like to know who told you that, I think it's kind of fishy; if you aren't comfortable posting it, then PM me.

I am an active shooter in DE, and know of several reputable instructors that I would recommend for you to use in obtaining your permit.

My top recommendation would be J D Defense, on route 9 west of Georgetown.

as for PA permits, two counties in PA issue PA permits to DE CCW holders. Delaware County (courthouse in Media, PA) will issue you a PA CCW for $45+/-. it will take you two trips; take along your DE CCW and driver's license with current address. check their website for additional info.

Potter County, PA will issue you a permit completely through the mail (you don't want to drive there), but the cost is $100. I don't know anything about the process, b/c I got mine through Delaware County.

I don't know very much about the FL permit, but if you go to PA a lot, I think its $$ well spent to just get a PA permit. you can still get a FL permit later, if you want.
