Florida uses a state point of contact, instead of the FBI NICS system. Any time a dealer calls in a NICS check for a Florida resident, it will be denied. It has nothing to do with the buyer being prohibited, it's just the way Florida law handles firearm background checks.

Most likely not.

My state, Connecticut, also uses a state check system. I have purchased long arms out of state with no problems at all.

Not exactly.
To be clear....
If a Florida dealer calls FBI NICS the transaction will not even get to the point where the transaction is given a proceed/delay/deny......as soon as the dealer gives his FFL# and code word he would be referred to the correct POC.

If a Florida resident attempts to purchase a rifle or shotgun from a dealer OUTSIDE of Florida the dealer contacts FBI NICS or his own state POC.....not Florida.

That makes sense, and is probably the real answer.

In Connecticut, we use a state POC for NICS. Non-residents can buy long guns here adn the one time I bought a rifle out of state, and went through the federal system, it went through as well.

After reading this far I'm starting to wonder if the problem here is more closely related to the "Where" that you are attempting to make your purchase. Why not call a "real" gunstore and inquire as to the actual laws involved-I sure wouldn't trust Wal-Mart to know too much about ANYTHING.
