Dented Case Mouths on Ejection

I bought a new to me, Browning BAR 30-06 made in 1967. It had not been fired, or a only fired a few times.

During ejection the case mouths are dented. I think I can size the dent out, but I'd rather solve the problem and not work the neck more than necessary.

I'm using reloads I made within book spec. Everything fired by me so far is book minimum charge through a moderate charge. I have not approached max charge yet.

Any clue what's causing the dents, an/or if this is typical behavior from a BAR?

Those won't hurt a thing. Use something tapered and round to open them up enough to let the expander through (Don't overdo it), and size as usual.

Typical behavior for a lot of semi-automatics.

There is a version of the Browning BAR sporter made as a straight pull for sale in the UK (no new semi-auto rifles allowed by law). I never understood a need for that in the US but that appears to be the only way to baby-treat brass for reloading.

Your brass looks like my 7.52x25 brass recovered after shooting my CZ52. I use the tool for flaring or belling .32 Colt NP brass to remove the dents.

As do my Mini 14/Mini 30, Garand, and my AR's on occasion. One of the hazards of self-loaders; they'll sometimes smack ejecting cases against the machinery during cycling and dent the case mouth.

I figured that's what was happening, but did not know it's normal behavior. It's my first centerfire semi-auto.

Thanks, guys, for your responses.
