Well, I expected this day over a month ago but it was delayed. My deployment is imminent and the movers just took the remaining haul of my guns into storage. Sad to see them go but that's one of the final signs that it's time to get on the plane.

I think I did a decent job cleaning and oiling them in prep for long term warehouse storage. I didn't really have any other safe and reliable storage options without forking over a bunch of money and a significant effort on my part (moving the safe is the worst part).

Alas they won't take the 'dangerous' ammo so that's getting stored with a friend.

Iraq here I come!

Godspeed lc. Stay safe and get back home soon.

After oiling, did you wrap them up in anything (like those "bluebags" or whatever they're called)?

I'll see you when you get here! Have a good trip over, and if you're lucky enough to be near a good irish pub, have a pint for me, will you!
Steve

Yes indeed, thanks.

FWIW, I had my Model 629 in storage for 3 years during an overseas assignment. It came through just fine. Freaked the mover out when I unpacked it though.

You know the saying, "Head down, (edited for THR)." Best of luck to you.

Movers wrapped them in paper. It's breathable and they are well oiled with Remington spray and 10W30 auto oil. Should be okay.

Take care of yourself, come home safe and sound. As others have said Thank you for your service and sacrifices. To paraphrase Patton, The goal is not to die for your country or beliefs but to make the other poor s.o.b. die for theirs. Good luck and stay safe.

I'll give you the same phrase I just used with my son as he just called me from Iraq: Stay aware - stay safe.

Hooah!

I will keep you (and all the others) in my prayers. I hope you get a cushie
place like Camp Victory. If this is your first combat deployment, it will
change you.

I trained up on my ar-15, M590 and 9mm before I left. Didn't have time to
clean them (I got two weeks notice prior to the Holidays and got on a plane
the day after New Years). Left them w/ 2 buddies who did a 1/2-* job on all
3 of them. Oh well, I came home safe and didn't care. They kept the rest of
the homestead in good condition.

It was probably 3 months after I got back before I even felt like shooting
again. Now I can't stop :D

Before I forget, make sure you have a roll of TP with you when you fly over
because somewhere between CONUS and your final FOB, there never seems
to be any. Maybe that situation is better by now...

My family has good thoughts for you and your brothers. My stepson recently enlisted in the Navy. Be careful and thank you.
