Place: Birmingham, AL
Time: 2200hrs

Deputy U.S. Marshal James Nolen was run over with a Lexus in
a Birmingham, AL motel parking lot late this afternoon, while an
attempt was being made to serve a warrant on B/M DeAngelo
Thomas who was wanted in connection with several armed
robberies from Anniston, AL to Tuscaloosa, AL.

Deputy Marshal Nolen tried to jump out of the way of the moving
automobile, but was hit and knocked too the ground. Deputy
Marshal Nolen was rushed by ambulance to Birmingham's U.A.B.
Hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
At this hour, a search by the Marshal's Service, the ATF, B'ham
PD, Jefferson County Sheriff's Dept, State Of Alabama DOC, and
a helicopter equipped with infra-red sensors (on loan from the
Tuscaloosa Police Dept) is being co-ordinated in an area known
as Crestwood; up to (and including the City of Irondale) as we
speak.

No other information is available at this time. Please let your

Update

The suspect, DeAngelo Thomas was captured by federal agents
at the Homewood, AL HoJo Inn at approximately 0530 hrs this
AM (8-12-04). He is incarcerated at the Jefferson County (AL)
jail in Birmingham awaiting formal charges.

Update: 13 August 04

Time: 1500 hrs in Birmingham, AL

It has just been learned that Deputy U.S. Marshal James Nolen
was released from Birmingham's U.A.B. Hospital on the evening
of 12 August 04, and is currently recovering from his injuries at
home.
