Guys, I'm like a kid in a candy shop. I just scored a great Desert Eagle .44. This is without a doubt the best pistol I've ever shot. The adrenaline rush is amazing. You have to hold it really firm because that hot brass will pop right into your face. Last night, I was at the range shooting it. Someone 2 booths down from me was a newbie. After hearing the loud explosion, I'm assuming that was the cause for her to high tail it out the door. The guys around told me that she ran so fast. While it was pretty funny, I can understand her fear.

By all means, if you get the chance, I suggest getting a Desert Eagle. You won't be disappointed.

I thought about a Deasert Eagle but I ended up gettin a 4" S&W 500. If you like "loud explosions at the range" this baby takes the cake. Our local range has a Deasert Eagle in 44 Mag for rent. Every now and then some young college kids will come in, rent it, and then look around for the reactions they get when they start shooting it. There have been a couple times when I just couldn't help myself, I just had take out my S&W 500 and fire off a couple rounds at the other end of the range. Man, it really steals their thunder (hehe). But, good lock with your new toy. :D

I own one in .50ae. Its a great conversation piece, looks cool, shoots darn accurate. Other than that I beleive its over kill, and over rated, in every other sense. Expensive to maintain/fix, impossible to conceal, weighs a ton, and you need "Andre The Giant" hands in order to have a comfy grip.

Ive never had the pleasure of hearing a S&W .500 making music, but I do know, that the .50ae is louder than Satans place of residence.

I wanted a Desert Eagle my whole life... I had the money when I first joined here, and asked the locals what they thought. They were quick to talk me out of it, but then again I buy all my guns for defense first, and everything else second. Once they pointed out how impractical it was for SD/HD, my priorities changed. Also, I have pretty big hands... and a DE is still way too big to hold comfortably in one hand.

I HAVE seen someone conceal one, though! :what:

And yes, it was perfectly concealed, on an average sized guy... Bellybands are amazing! Besides, even if you could conceal it, who would want to? That thing weighs like 7 pounds! :p

I'd still like to own one, but I think it can wait. I'm a helluva lot better shooter than I was a year ago, but I still think I have more to achieve in the way of skill before I can justify buying a showpiece for $1,200. Still, I'd imagine that they're about as fun as possible to take to the range.

I couldnt imagine trying to un-holster that thing in a panic situation! It would be like "The Joker" on the first (Keaton) Batman movie!

concealing

You know what, I don't care about concealing it. At times, I wear just so people can see it. I know the size and weight but I'm man enough to handle it. In the Spring, I'm going to be riding my motorcycle with my big ol' .44 on the hip.

I don't let people talk me into or out of a pistol. If you want it, go for it. I'm keeping this forever, I'd never get rid of it.

Personally, I don't see a reason to get a 50AE. But the .44 is a sweet pistol.

I handled one for the first time yesterday at the gun shop; it felt like I was holding a mini-sledgehammer. Maybe that's part of the design: if you're such a poor shot that you miss the BG, you can always use it as a club.

if you like it you might want to try the 50 version.

"I thought about a Deasert Eagle but I ended up gettin a 4" S&W 500."

yeah a 4 inch 500 is insane. Ive only shot personally the 10? inch barrel and it felt less than a 45acp. It seems like the 50ae gets a bigger flame going than the 4in though for some reason.

I was by no means bashing your new pistol. Its a very nice one indeed! Just my thoughts. Alot of people hold it in this "Devilish Delight" type of mystique. The gun is just not what people blow it up to be! We can all thank Hollywood for that.

If you can see the point of having a .44mag there should be no reason why you have a hard time seeing the point of a .50ae. I enjoy both!

Turning off newbies to our sport. Bummer. I suppose you could not help it though. Congrads on the new pistol.

Congrats on the new pistol.

I had one in the .50 with the 10 inch extended barrel. It was quite fun to shoot, and Im glad I got the chance to own one.

Have fun, and try not to scare anyone else off.

The .50AE is great fun.... I have been thinking of selling my older model and buying
the Mark XIX so I can have a buildable platform. That will give me .357, .44, and the .50 AE.

To quote Boris the Blade from an all time favorite of mine, Snatch (for those who have not seen it, do it ASAP):

"Heavy, isn't it? Heavy is good. Heavy is reliable. If it doesn't work, you can always hit him with it."

You must have seen a different version....

All the .50 AE's are Mk XIX. The MK VII .50 is the basis for the Mk XIX platform.

For the naysayers; keep it in perspective. No reasonable person will argue that the DE is impractical for certain applications. As a defensive or duty sidearm, it is heavy, unweildy and unnecessarily powerful. As a range toy, it is expensive to play with (at least in .50).

The Desert Eagle is first and foremost a HUNTING handgun. I use my Scoped .50 in that role, and the power and incredible accuracy of this pistol make it a real contender in a revolver and single shot dominated sport.

Hollywood certainly does like to portray the DE as the ultimate combat pistol (on the side of good or bad), but that's hollyweird and we all know how much they care about factual accuracy.

If Illinois would ever endeavor to become enlightened and allow semi automatic handguns to be used for hunting deer I would love to use a 10" .44 magnum Desert Eagle.

We are stuck with revolver only now and several hunters are using .500 and .460 S&W big boomer revolvers.
I have had the opportunity to shoot a number of them and Like the .454 Casull they do nothing for me personally.

As it stands right now, I will continue to use my 5" 629 .44 Magnum revolver and wait for the day I might, could use an Eagle,,,,,

In Connecticut you'd be screwed. If you carry it has to be concealed. If even the imprint of a gun is visible you're going to jail and losing your permit. That is the biggest reason why I don't carry....
