is there any meaningful difference in the "old" detonics Mk IV and
the "new" detonics Combat Master? (except for $300-$400 in price?).

Detonics, old or new

Yes, there is a difference. Although, the older Detonics is one of the best pistols ever made, the new models are parts are all CNC machined, and the metal alloys are said to be improved. As you already know, the new pistols are made completly from stainless steel, and is 100% American made parts. The new 5 inch , 911 01 model was recently tested. The pistol was drop tested, shot from a cannon 100 yards high and 300 yards long, then fired 31,000 rounds in five days, WITHOUT CLEANING. Afterwards, pistol fired a one-hole group, by two different shooters. One shooter fired 500 rounds in 10 minutes during the test. [plenty loaded mags were available] I have Colts and Kimbers, one of which is a Series 1 Classic Gold Match, My Detonics is second to none in quality reliabilty and accuracy, and is my favorite.

Copy That!

I took possession of my [first] CombatMaster Mk VI yesterday. It's an early manufactured Gun in pristine factory original configuration. After taking her home for a thorough check-over, I cleaned the Barrel, applied a little oil and lubed the Gun properly.

Took her out to the indoor range and loaded the Mags with 200Gr wadcutters. The Target was placed at CQB distance, about 20 feet. The CM was slow fired while rested. Had a bunch of hole in one hits. All were within 2". Free hand shooting opened-up the spread a little. It's to be expected, I guess.

Rested at 25 yards, all hits were within a 4" spread.

Recoil was extremely manageable. The 3-spring recoil system developed by Detonics really, really does it job! It's function throughout the session was flawless.

Accuracy, I think, is phenomenal for a 26 year old gun with a 3.5" barrel.
