DHS noticed the ammo shortage too.

"The high volume of purchases and stockpiling of weapons and ammunition by right-wing extremists in anticipation of restrictions and bans in some parts of the country continue to be a primary concern to law enforcement."

Just one of many quotes from an article that must obviously be 90% farce.

stockpiling of weapons and ammunition by right-wing extremists

Wow. How does that make our left of center brothers here on this board feel? We all know we have some here who share our love of firearms and freedom. And, we all know how sensitive they are when called "lefties" or "liberals". Heaven knows how they feel now, being called "right wing extremists", by our government.
Sorry guys....I just couldn't resist................

I read the DHS_RWE.pdf (focuses on Rightwing Extremism)

Now I wonder if they have a DHS_LWE.pdf? I looked but could not find anything on Leftwing Extremism.

Makes me wonder about Moderate Extremism and Center Extremism.

And... Didn't the current administration recently send out a memo teling everyone stop using the phrase Islamic Extremism.

Someone please help me keep up with the current political labels.

Thanks,

More questions....

What exactly is a Rightwing extremest group. I did not see any definition in the document. It appears to be very vague. Maybe they are talking about the EIB network? Or maybe neo-nazi organizations? I could not tell when reading the document.

And what is the "I&A" in the statement below?

"DHS/I&A will be working with its state and local partners over the next
several months to ascertain with greater regional specificity the rise in rightwing
extremist activity in the United States, with a particular emphasis on the political, economic, and social factors that drive rightwing extremist radicalization."

Of course one must read the entire document before you can understand what's being said:

http://images.logicsix.com/DHS_RWE.pdf
(U//FOUO) Open source reporting of wartime ammunition shortages has likely spurred rightwing extremists—as well as law-abiding Americans—to make bulk purchases of ammunition. These shortages have increased the cost of ammunition, further exacerbating rightwing extremist paranoia and leading to further stockpiling activity.

Both rightwing extremists and law-abiding citizens share a belief that rising crime rates attributed to a slumping economy make the purchase of legitimate firearms a wise move at this time.

Of course it's not near as dramatic if you read the entire publication and it certainly doesn't have the impact of quoting passages out of context for their shock/dramatic effect.......

HHHmmmmmm...

21 years of service in one uniform or other..... Retired from DHS in Dec 2007.

Now I'm a right wing extremist??? :what:

I give up. :banghead:

To keep it on topic... Finding ammo is getting easier in the Puget sound area...

And what is the "I&A" in the statement below?

Intelligence and Analysis.....just like the military has MI to support the operators, civie agencies have intel folks to support their "operators".

I have to say, the intel folks at civie agencies cruise through forums like these to get a sense of what folks are babbling about, amongst the other forums out there....when you have threads talking about SHTF scenarios, rhetoric about the current political climate regarding firearms, and conspiracy theorists writing about jack boot thugs and black helicopters, you really think the feds are gonna blow it off as just some frustrated gun owners blowing off steam? They are probably seeing the same threads being talked about in the right wing extremist website and chat forums hence why they are making the correlation between stocking up on guns and ammo and right wing extremism.

I, for one, can't stand the use of the term "right wing".

Both major political parties in this country are well to the left of the Constitution.

Classical Liberalism - what this nation enjoyed for an all-too-brief period of time after its founding, and what is in many ways enshrined in the Constitution (Negative Liberty and Negative Government ideology) - is the center of the global political spectrum.

I'm sure many of the groups referred to are simply on the far right wing of our current political spectrum and verbiage - and therefore still to the left of the Constitution.

I would imagine - or at least hope - that we have scant few real right-wingers in this country (authors of the report notwithstanding).

I would further imagine, given the generally responsible nature of the shooting public as a subset of the population, that we are not the sorts who will plunge ourselves into debt in order to lay hands on that much more ammunition. Given the run we've seen, and the fiscal state of many individuals at present, I can only hope that - at least in terms of making massive purchases - many of us are rather well-spent right now, and don't have a great deal more $ with which to keep eating up ammo.

Dear Moderator Jeff,

Please stop being an apologist for the current Administration. Your comment was as political as anyone else's. Let these idiots be hoisted by their own petard.

Here is how the document defines Right Wing Extremism:

Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.

So, if (1) you favor states rights over federal authority - some may recall the old Jefferson v. Hamilton struggle over this issue some 230 years ago - or (2) you are opposed to illegal immigration (funny thing about the word "illegal" in there), or (3) you are Pro-Life, or heaven forbid, a practicing Catholic - you are now a Right Wing Extemist. Wonderful.

Some more wonderful stuff. And the first one is strictly related to guns!

The high volume of purchases and stockpiling of weapons and ammunition by rightwing extremists in anticipation of restrictions and bans in some parts of the country continue to be a primary concern to law enforcement.

So, without citing any LEO's or studies, they say the current purchases of weapons and ammo are a "primary concern to law enforcement." I say BS.

Returning veterans possess combat skills and experience that are attractive to rightwing extremists.

So now you are a potential enemy of the Obamanation if you served in the military. Wonderful.

A recent example of the potential violence associated with a rise in rightwing extremism may be found in the shooting deaths of three police officers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on 4 April 2009.

So now the Pittsburgh nutjob killer whose mother was trying to get his sorry butt out of her house is Prime Example No. 1 of Right Wing Extremists. Wonderful.

Many rightwing extremists are antagonistic toward the new presidential administration and its perceived stance on a range of issues, including immigration and citizenship, the expansion of social programs to minorities, and restrictions on firearms.

Well, they got me there. I don't like Obama's actual, not perceived, stances on (a) illegal immigration (they keep leaving that "illegal" word out, hmmm), (b) the horrific increase in our national deficit to fund social programs which will weigh heavily on (God willing) my grandchildren, and (c) his strong history of actual recorded votes on all gun issues.

Guess this makes me a dreaded Right Wing Extremist. Wonderful.

Because debates over constitutional rights are intense, and parties on all sides have deeply held, sincere, but vastly divergent beliefs, violent extremists may attempt to co-opt the debate and use the controversy as a radicalization tool.

Heaven forbid any disagree with the Obamanation's view of the US Constitution. You must have been co-opted by the RWE's. Wonderful.

I could go on. But this Report is written with about as much reasoning a 4th grader's book report taken off Wikipedia the night before it was due when he didn't read the book. Absolutely zero supporting evidence for any of its grandiose assumptions.

But it truly is scary if these are the people now in charge. :banghead:
