Just because the question poped into my head.

Which is more aggressive? A diamond hone or various stones (take your pick)? Reason i ask is cause i am thinking about picking up some stones if they are less aggressive. (not the the hone is aggresive by any means)

Thanks

Having used diamond sharpeners on knives [and other things] I can say hat diamond will really remove material if you bear down hard ! I have different materials for different jobs. The only natural stone I use is hard arkansas for the finest jobs .Most gun trigger jobs I use ceramic with triangular and square rods.. Diamond for knives especially the top of the line steels. Diamond can also sharpen carbide drills etc. In all of these you can get coarse, medium or fine grit.

When a stone wears with use, the abrasive particles that end up between your work and the stone diminish in size (get finer).

Diamond "stones" don't wear quickly, but when a diamond breaks away from the stone it will keep grinding into your work independently of the rest of the stone and will not leave as fine a finish as a stone.

So as Mete said... I use diamonds for the rough work, stones for the fine work.
